I initially started viewing and participating on this website 8/26/2012 because I needed help with the swing weight of a club that I cut down and I needed help fast before I went out to the course. And, after that I added comments to a few post without formally introducing myself (the shame).

So…Officially I am new,

My name is Kyle, I live in Florida, and I am in my late 30’s and I didn’t start Golfing until a few days after my 30 th birthday; I consider that starting late. I started playing golf because my friends started playing golf. I immediately found a love for hitting that little ball. At first I was unable to hit the ball straight, slice of course, but after a few years I straightened it up by working on that swing-plane. I have never taken an official lesson, although I should, but I am currently shooting in the mid to high 80’s. I am a golf techie; which I believe hurts my game and progress because I am constantly tweaking and changing my equipment. IT sucks because it is really expensive, but as of late I have become satisfied with what I am using:

  • Taylormade R11s driver and 4 wood,
  • Taylormade  rescue 11 4 hybrid,
  • Taylormade 2009 tour preferred irons 4-PW,
  • Taylormade XFT wedges 50, 54, 58,
  • and Odyssey #7 white ice putter
  • I’m still going through a ball change right now; I was usuing the titleist NXT Tour, but now I am trying out the Maxfli U/3 & U/4x, Taylormade Penta, and Callaway Chrome.

I’m a Taylormade guy, but not by choice, I am playing with what feels good plus I got fitted with the above named clubs. Getting fitted makes a big difference; prior to getting the Taylormade equipment I was had bought and used Callaway, Adams, and Nike clubs. My advice to anyone trying to get better at golf get fitted before buying new equipment, it will save you much $-Moolla-$.

Anyways, I am happy to have found this website and I hope to gain much needed golf knowledge (yes, I am long winded).

Driver: Taylormade R11's 10.5

4 Wood: Taylormade R11's

4 Hybrid: Taylormade Rescue 11

Irons 4-PW: Taylormade 2009 Tour Preferred

Wedges: Taylormade XFT Z, 50, 54, 58

Putter: Odyssey white ice #7

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
    • Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.
