Need club selection help

Here it goes... I've been playing a lot of golf I've totalled 65 rounds this year and close to that number last year. I have a set of burner plus irons which have been great for the last couple years but now that I've been dropping my handicap rapidly over the last little while coupled with more frequent lessons and the end of year sales happening up north in Canada I've decided I'm interested in pursuing new irons. I have come up with a little checklist of what I'm interested in:

1) Something still in the GI category but that allows me to work the ball better and won't be so dampening off the face. Also something that more resembles and plays like a players iron

2) It doesn't have to be this years model. I'm more than happy to buy an iron that is a year old or so.

3) I would like them to be fitted. I've grown a lot in the last year and won't be growing much more. Something that has the potential to still fit me if I were to grow another inch.

So, while i've already done lots of research into clubs I20's AP1's and JPX. I am open to suggestions from my fellow sandtrappers. I also don't mind shaft suggestions (the dead zone in my research) I preferably would like something I can fly higher but at the moment I can't even hit a knockdown shot with my irons because of the COG. I've been playing with stock Taylormade shafts in my clubs.

I can't recommend the Adams CB line enough. CB1, CB2, CB3 are all great irons. CB1s are the less forgiving option, more players irons; the CB3s are at the opposite end, very forgiving, but without the shovel look. And the CB2s fall nicely in the middle.

If you're an 18 handicapper, you won't see much difference between the clubs in the GI category. As long as they are set up for you (correct length, lie, shaft flex, etc.) it all comes down to which one looks the best to you and what you like. The best thing you can do is go to demo days. I don't recommend buying something based off of a few swings in the hitting tunnel at your local golf store.

Yeah I'm a member at a club and got a chance to hit all the clubs I mentioned above. I really liked the look and feel of the AP1's

Keep trying to hit as many different clubs as you can until you find the best club for you. Don't buy anything based on what I or anyone else on this site says. We aren't you.

I currently own the AP1 712's, a set of CB2's I was custom fit for, and a set of Burner 2.0's (because they all hit great in the store). Depending on what you're needing will help get you in the right direction. I can't work the ball period, I just need the ball to go straight and forgive my occasional toe hit (my favorite miss in irons).

The TM's are long when hit flush but a miss will equal ground ball (for me) and they just sit in my toy room.

The CB2's I had custom fit for me have KBS stiff shafts and when hit well they feel like butter and the ball just screams off the face. They cut through turf well and with the Lamkin grips I have on them they are just gorgeous.

The AP1's have S300 shafts in them and dear god without ever having them fit to me (bought them used for a steal on here) they absolutely blast the ball wherever I'm aiming as long as I'm on my game that day. When I'm off, no iron is going to save me but these fit me and my swing style exceptionally well and if they head was just a bit smaller I'd absolutely die over them.

TM's fall to MY bottom of the list, they just don't work well for me. The CB2's sit in the middle and when I'm hitting the ball well they are a thing of beauty plus they just look dead sexy. The AP1's are my favorite though, they still look great and fly the ball HIGH which is a problem I have with other irons. Because of the launch I get with my normal swing they just fit me well, stop balls on the green great and the feel is just awesome. Best irons I've personally owned.

Now 2 other people would rank these totally different so hitting them all is a must but that's how they fall for me.

I did a Titleist fitting for the 712 AP1's and they are excellent irons. They should do everything you need, and you should be able to keep them in the bag for several years as you are obviously committed to playing and improving. They look good at address too - not overly chunky or anything like that. Just a great all around club. Good luck with your choice.

@namkrats, I play KBS shafts in my 712 CB's. They are awesome in my opinion!
