I need help picking what clubs to add to my bag. This is what I have now:

TM z spin wedges

60 deg = 40-55y

56 deg = 55-70y

TM burner irons

A = 90-105y

P = 105-120y

9 = 120-135y

8 = 135-150y

7 = 150-165y

6 = 165-180y

5 = 180-195y

4 = 195-210y

CW razor x driver

9.5 = 270-290

I can add two more clubs, but what should I get? My swing speed is 100. I was thinking going with a 52 degree wedge and either a 3 wood or 3 hybrid.

What would you guys do?

I think you're not getting enough out of your lob or sand wedge. My SS is 86 with a driver, and I get 85 from a SW and 70 from a LW. Then your A wedge follows (which is your gap wedge).

With a 100 SS, I'd suggest a 3-4 wood, and a 3H - you might wait for Callaway's new offering. They're talking big things about them.

And then I'd tweak those wedges. Something is going on with the shafts because you're not getting enough from them.

First, adding a fifth wedge would be a waste.  You could shave a few yards off your AW by choking down on the shaft a half-inch, thus covering the distance gap.

As for other clubs, you might try a 3W or 4W and either a 3H or a 7W.

Test-hit several combinations and see which works best. If at all possible, hit some shots from a tee with minimal elevation. I had problems with my old FWs because the practice range tee was elevated 6 feet, and the home course range landing area was just plain down hill. I got an unrealistic idea of how high I was hitting the FWs (which wasn't all that high, I found out.)

For the hybrid - with your clubhead speed - you probably want a Pro or Tour head so you don't end up with a hook machine.

Focus, connect and follow through!

How well do you hit your long irons?  It seems like you have a really large distance range with your longer irons.

To me, this means you probably hit them inconsistently.  If that's the case, I'd suggest you put in a 3 or 4 hybrid for the longer approach shots.

Then I would probably add a 3 wood to the bag.  Something you can use to get off the tee and to get to those longer par 5's.

why does that make you think i am inconsistent with my long irons? i think i am a fairly consistent with my long iron.

what do you think about a 3 iron? ive noticed most (game improvement) iron sets dont come with a 3 anymore. why is that? i know a 3 is a hard club to hit, but i hit my 4 really well. how much harder could a 3 be?

so a 3-4w seems like a no brainer. i would like hear what people have to say about a 3 iron before i commit to a 3h.

If that was my yardages I would go with a 3 wood and a 2 or 3 hybrid. Having the hybrid for long shots out of the rough is really helpful. Plus that would cover that large gap between your 4 iron and driver. I wouldn't worry about another wedge, work on partial swings with your current wedges to cover your yardages.

My son swung a driver at 115. But he still used a player's 3H with an Oban Devotion shaft - not a 3i.

New sets don't come with a 3i cause they've just relabeled all the clubs.  Your 4i is 21˚.  That's strong for a classic 3i.  My 3i is 20˚ and I consider that a bit too strong.

With a 21˚ 4i and a 50˚ GW, I'd vote for a 14-15˚ 3W and a 18-19˚ hybrid.

Just based on the distances, I think you are right on.  Most important is filling that gap between your 56 and A wedges (although that's usually what A wedges are so I'm not sure why that gap is so big) then I'd just get whatever you're most comfortable with that you can use on tight tee shots and going for par 5's.  Probably a 3 or 4 wood that you can hit 240-ish.

    • Shot a 37 with two birdies. 2 highlights which came on the same hole.  Had a 297 yard drive which set me up for a nice approach on my  nemesis hole which I walked off with a birdie. Previous best for ages was a bogey on that hole.  2 more added to the birdie challenge.
