have you ever seen something WRONG people do in their swing and started doing it?

ahhh i was watching lessons online and this instructor said, "and this is what you do NOT need to do" and even though i had never in my life even thought about doing that before, every time i swing i can't get it out of my head.Β  i don't think i've actually done it at all yet, but i keep thinking "i can't do it, i can't do it" and it's distracting.Β  it's the most OCD/annoying thing ever.

just in case you aren't like me, the comment was "do not follow the club with your eyes as it leaves the ground and disappears beyond your shoulder; instead, watch the still ball the whole time."Β  i mean really, who the hell even does that?Β  what kind of POS instructor was i even watching?Β  lol

golf is such a complicated sport anyway, all instructors should be teaching are healthy habits, not the bad ones.Β  just curious if anyone else has ever immersed themselves so much in learning how to correct their swing that they intermittently develop a bad habit.

If only it was that easy. Hard to ingrain anything into a swing, good or bad. Maybe it's just me but with my instructor we touch on things many times, talking about weeks and months, before it becomes anything close to automatic. IMO tougher to undo things than pick something up after a glance.

That said it is easy to have wandering swing thoughts. Two hours of practice and instruction and all it takes is standing on the tee a minute later to start wondering if I locked my car or some other BS. Even worse with a putter in hand. My golf obstacles are more mental than mechanical.

Now you've done it, now I can't not do it. Is this a Monty Python skit? :-D

I play with a guy every once in a while who plays all over the board in score, and I just try to help him or watch his swing if his asks for it. Β For the most part, when he made a bad swing, he did a Furyk back swing, and went thru and the ball went everywhere. Β Not saying that was the cause, but I told him that and he screamed because he knows he's been doing it and trying to stop but he can't seem to get rid of it. Β I've had my bad habits that I can't get rid of in a round, and I really try to go back to basics when it happens. Β Sometimes the cure is just taking a break from golf for a few days to let it pass, usually works too!

    • Day 17, 1/17.Β  This morning, before going for a walk, I spent 15 minutes hitting balls (6-iron, indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls).Β  The same continued focus, although I am starting to wonder if regular small intervals just aren't changing the picture (although I also am not reverting so maybe it's not bad)
