I've taken my 6 iron out of my bag and it will be staying in the trunk of my car until further notice. Not sure what it is about that club, but I just cannot seem to make proper contact with my 6, and even on the off chance I don't hit it off the toe or the hozzle, it still slices onto the next fairway (if I'm lucky). Most of my mid-long iron shots fade naturally, but for some reason it is extremely exaggerated and uncontrollable with my 6, so I've just removed it completely so it can't tell the other clubs it's evil secrets when I'm not looking.

Which club is the bane of your bag?

Those hybrids, 3iw and 4iw. I top the ball every time I shoot with them, and when I try to get under it so I dont top it, I chunk it.
Definitely my 3 iron, in fact, I'm seriously considering replacing it with a rescue club.

I'm surprised nobody has said "whatever one is in my hands at the moment."

Anyway, I don't really have any problems with any one club in particular. I hit them all roughly equally the same.

My short game could stand be improved, but I've not had the opportunity to practice it this year. But that's like four or six clubs.

The putter.

I think everyone can say that, though, what with all the missed putts everyone has. Apart from that, for me, it's the 3 wood. 7 out of 10 times I hit it, it's 150 yards off line to the right. I think the club face is open about 10 degrees at address. The other 2 out of 10 I'll top it or hit a low screamer, and the last 1 out of 10 I'll toe it.

The putter.

I make just over 60% of the putts I look at, so no, I think you're wrong. Most everyone can't say it's the putter.

Look at it this way, then. How many times do you mishit another club in a round? Compare that number to how many times you miss a putt.

My putting could improve. But the thread title is the club that gives you the most trouble. Trouble being the operative word.

I'm not particularly troubled by the putter.

It used to be the three wood up until about two days ago, when I've been killing the thing dead straight - now it's my low irons, and since I have the lowest iron in my bag right now being a 5, it's been that. Out of like 10 shots, Only 3-4 are solid at the range, when I drop down to a 6 I hit it really well, but I hit the 5 fat, then I hit it thin, then toe it, ugh!

Definitely my 3 Iron....

My putter is by far my more consistent and reliable club.

Putter definitely comes and goes but I'm slowly improving.

Other than that I'm actually fairly solid.

I am definatly having putter troubles right now, im powering all my putts.

When I do that I find that I'm taking a shorter backswing on my putts, then "blasting" it through to remember to accelerate through the ball...I proceed to blow it by 4 feet.

What I'm doing now is taking a bigger back stroke, and remembering to follow through, BUT don't have to "speed" up the follow through...just letting the putter flow more can help on this.

That's some good advice, I've been having trouble keeping my putting stroke fluid. I really don't have any club that troubles me, maybe my putter just because missing putts is so aggravating. My bag goes Driver, 3iw, 6-PW, SW, Putter I took all those useless long irons because I can hit my 6 iron (depending on the swing I put on it) 150-185 and my 3iw 185-230. So I feel no need to bother with a 4 iron or 3 iron when I only have yardage gaps the lower I go (still wrestle with club selection in the 80-90 range -- SW or soft PW)

52*, 56*, 60* out of the fairway! Don't have any idea why! Always seem to hit em fat unless of course it's a pitch shot. Full or half shots always seem to be short and fat.

Uhm, given that I

almost never mishit my putter... your attempt to make a point has failed. If you're using "missing the hole" as your criteria, by definition, someone's driver is probably their most troubling club. After all, most people have never holed out with a driver. In other words, "missing the hole" is a poor, poor criteria, and you've clearly missed the point. Also, Ben Hogan once said that he only hits about 4-5 perfect shots per round. The rest are all "mishit" to one degree or another. Clearly Ben - and other golfers like myself - have higher standards for our performance. 60% is an INCREDIBLE rate of success, even if we use your unusual "missed putts = mishit" equation. On my best days, I probably hit about 10% of my shots within my standards of "pretty darn good." Plus, I've hit some bad putts that still happen to find the bottom of the cup... just as I've hit some "ugly but effective" drives, chips, mid-irons, etc.

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
