When you are dropping names like VJ, you are sure to do well

Most of the inventions, like their inventors are off the wall... I think the few with a real retail shot would be shaft skinz, impact tape, net return and the wheels on the bag. Not bad entertainment value though.

I caught it the other night. I really liked the clips that stand your club up. I would buy one or two right away.

i think its a great show but they need two or more categories...

the VJ putting system is amazing but so wasnt the small fold out rake that attached to the end of your club...

its like they need a section for game improvment/swing trainer etc etc and then accessories

Yep, they should definitely have multiple categories. I also didn't think the magnetic putting system should be allowed to enter. With so many pros already using it, it doesn't really fit in the spirit of the competition.

I'd buy one or two right now, too. I think that may be the perfect invention for this kind of competition: it's easy to manufacture, it's cheap enough that anyone can buy it as a gift, stocking stuffer, or on a whim for themselves. It's easy to use and demonstrate. It takes up little shelf space. Perfect!

The two guys with the camera on a tripod... that seems to me something that shouldn't have been put through to field testing. It's lame. My Canon SD550 does 60 frames-per-second video. Somehow they think a video camera is an "invention" because they stuck a little tripod on it. Whoopty doo! You're better off buying a camera like mine - it can take pictures, too. I don't see GolfSmith selling a bunch of $400 devices.

Erik, to take your $400 argument further, IMHO, I don't believe regular Joes are going to fork over the $$ for the VJ putting machine. I understand how it can help, but the cost (I'm assuming it will be a couple of hundred) and set-up will probably not appeal to the regular guys. I can tell you from experience - I am not a good putter, and I still wouldn't buy that apparatus.

For tour pros or amateurs that compete regulary, I think it will sell. Not so much for people like me. I do agree that the clothespin greenside holder was genius!! The "zen golfer" was out of his rockers Plus, I don't think it hurts that Stina is quite smoking.....

Normally I don't post something just to say, "I agree", but I'm making an exception here.

You nailed it! (Not so much for people like me + "zen" golfer out of his rockers + Stina) Maybe Charles Kuralt could have said it better, but I sure couldn't!

Not sure what this is worth -- there were three reviews of the Strike 'N Swipe of the golfsmith website - one reviewer gave the product 5-stars and two reviewers each gave the product 1-star.

I guess in due time, if we keep watching Stina, we'll find out if Strike 'N Swipe is the winner. I can't tell right now because my crystal ball is busted.

A couple quick comments.

Stina is quite the biscuit, but boy is she a b*tch. Not that I disagree with her, she's right most of the time but boy, can she be snippy.

You guys are right about needing several catagories. I don't think they did a good job of specifying exactly what they are looking for. As I understand it, the winner will be sold in Golfsmith shops. Based on that criteria, the putting system and swing camera are not good cadidates. The club clip, the swing swipe, and the pop out support for travel bags are better.

I'm enjoying the show but it looks pretty bush league. The set, the filming, and production are pretty weak.

Stina makes some very idiotic statements. One of the most useful products on the show was the man who made the plastic attachment for your bag to hang at an angle from a cart. Her response was that there was already a product on the market but she wasn't able to listen to her other jurors when they pointed out that would require going out and purchasing a new Ogio bag, which is not cheap. She couldn't get past the fact that there was another bag on the market and she quickly gave him a no. It was a nice, cheap and simple invention that would be really useful to golfers who consistently take carts.

I thought the timer was one of the dumber ideas that got through, along with the glove caddy thing.

Ditto, the timer is a no brainer and no ones going to spend money on that crap. And the funny thing is my bag already has a velcro strap for my glove.. go figure. I had to bring this back because the show is still airing, and i missed it. I was pleasently surprised by some of the inventions on the show.. im just not really seeing mass market for many of them. The strike and swipe is cool.. and would be great for demos in pro shops, but im not convinced its going to help the average golfer on his own.

Don't bring my mate Calim down!

I was kind of mad that towel thing got through-Why can't you just squirt a club/ball with water and wipe it off like the old fashioned way? I wanted to see Dan Huang's Sit and Stand bag go through. I liked the idea.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
