Ughh Labrum is a painful one.  Primary issue being lack of blood supply to not only the labrum but your Rotator cuff tendons.  Internal and External rotation is what they'll have you do.  Eccentrics - the lowering part of an exercise promotes collagen growth better then the concentric or up part of the movement so focus there. Would also strengthen your lower/middle trap and rhomboids.  Thoracic Spine (upper back/spine) Rotation also needs mobility (stretching) as well as your chest - if these areas are tight.

Labrum more then anything takes time - good luck!

Google exercises if you need to BTW

After 3 shoulder dislocations within 8 months, I underwent arthroscopic shoulder stabilization surgery on Feb.3.. 3 weeks ago today.  Have no pain in shoulder and minimal stiffness. Been doing pendulum exercises faithfully as per surgeon's instructions. Will be allowed to progress to different exercises this week.  The surgery showed to rips or tears in the labrum or rotator cuff.  Had 5 anchors placed inside shoulder to stabilize and prevent further dislocations.  ROM is minimal but progressing slightly almost by the day.

I normally play and co-sponsor a charity tournament in late June every year.  This years' events are on the 21st & 22nd of June.  I mentioned this to my surgeon who told me the chances of playing are slim........ but quickly added a "we'll see".  If I faithfully follow my course of rehab, what are the chances I'll be able to play come late June this year?

Anyone else have a similar type surgery?

since my last post i have been to the specialist. no surgery just rehab. been icing it for days, taking motrin, and stretching in out, working with very lite weights and  i swung the golf club today a couple times in my garage. in the morning i wake up and it takes about an hour for my shoulder to wake up after.  have to stretch it out every morning to get mobility and range of motion. i see the dr again in 2 weeks ill have to tell about that.

I was diagnosed with bursitis in my left shoulder. I have done 2 rehabs and 1 cortisone shot.
I have had an MRI and been told there is nothing to surgically repair.
My doc told me not to carry my bag as the motion of sending my arm back through the loop can aggravate my shoulder.

Last week I accidentally slept on the couch with my puppy. slept on my shoulder.
Been barking at me all week.

I went and swung. It does not hurt to swing, it hurts to do everything else in life!

The joys of getting old and breaking down!

what did the cortisone shot do for you.

my issue is a torn labrum so i can move my arm i have almost full range of motion i have very little to no strength in certain directions and the ball seems to pop its been 2 weeks today I'm going to start with a little weight training to work on the deltoids to strengthen them up to hold the shoulder in place so its not as sloppy

I just got out of surgery the 29th of Aug. I had a 1/2" of supraspinatus rc tarn off the bone repaired, and a couple bone spurs removed. It is still sore at night due to blood thinners I take for a heart condition, as the wounds continue to weep blood. Sounds a little bad but it is the norm for my situation. I am wondering whether I will be able to play golf this coming summer? I am 59 and have always been involved in sports.

I had a decompression along with minor cuff debridement and labral debridement.  I had been stiff for a long time but got to the point where even a little bit of external rotation caused a sharp twinge.  Drivers hurt at first then it was working it's way down all the way to 3/4 wedges.  The labrum was torn but the biceps head was attached so no need for a repair.  I'm at about 4 weeks past surgery and have almost all my ROM back except for internal rotation and of course the one that really counts for golf - external rotation.  I think I'm starting to pick up a little bit of pain free external rotation as long as my elbow is down at my side.  Once it gets abducted even a bit the sharp twinges are still there.  There's still time for the external rotation to recover and if it doesn't then I'll just have to go lefty.

Now when I look at video from before it was hurting I can see where I wasn't able to get into external rotation on the backswing.  It made for an over the top move that I compensated for by dropping way inside.

It's been about 5 weeks now since surgery to repair the full thickness tear in my RC, and I am about a week into PT. I am quickly getting ROM back, but still am a long way off of full recovery. I figure I will take my time this winter and rehab properly, as I don't intend to golf until next summer, about 6-7 months from now. Even then,  I will take it easy and only do what I can do, and not overdo it. The PT said RC shoulder surgeries are some of the toughest to rehab.

Definitely take your time. I had surgery 3 years ago and I still do all my PT exercises and stretches.  It took me 6-12 months to get full range and strength back.

I had a full tear of the subscapularis tendon (part of the RC), and had to have open surgery. The surgery was last September, and I was putting and chipping by February and on a golf trip by March. I was very good at following PT directions and did PT twice, every three times a week, with more stretching and exercises every day.

Definitely take your time, and let your PT tell you when you're ready.

Good luck!

Glad to hear you are doing well, chspeed, and I have one question:

Where was the tear located on the subscapularis? (My tear was a 1/2" long full thickness tear of the supraspinatus cuff off the bone)

Billly Z, my case was pretty unusual. I actually had a shoulder injury playing hockey when I was a kid that had damaged my subscap. Because of the injury, I had a bizarre extra bone piece grow in my shoulder, and the subscap reattached itself to that automatically. My shoulder was always kind of weird, but I was able to play sports, etc. Then last year, while swinging a club, I felt something give. The surgeon actually removed the extra bone and reattached the subscap to the correct place - thus the open surgery.

I am 72 and had rotator cuff surgery on 10/23/14 and was told no golf for 5-6 months. I quit wearing the sling 3 days after surgery as less pain with it off. I quit thearapy after 2 weeks as it was such simple stuff I could do it at home. I played my first round of golf on 12/24/14, second round on 12/26/14 and third round on 1/4/15. The therapist went nuts when she found I had played and lectured me for one whole session about the damage I was doing. I am not going back to therapy as the shoulder  really feels good. Little bit of discomfort during the day but not a thing swinging the club. All has gone away except a couple behind my back movements that I can't complete fully yet. I have absolutely no problems so far even lifting 80 pound box yesterday. Guess  am lucky but also had a good Doc who does 200 of these a year. Even the scars are hard to find. I play twice a week and  I have lost no distance, hit the 4 iron 200 yards and hit the fairway 90% with it. Can't recommend every one ignore their Doctor but I just figure if it don't hurt, why not. Shoot 85 with 2 triples aint bad. My surgery was to repair a complete torn tendon and grind spurs. Required a pin to attach stitching to.

I swung a club yesterday for the first time since surgery(aug 29), it was my driver, and I did 50 dry swings. No pain to speak of, but today, a day later, my shoulder is aching. I suppose it will take time to get rid of the pain. I sick and tired of pain in this shoulder, it's getting better, but pain still exists if I use it too much.

My post is above yours. I am Tedofva, I started third week after surgery swinging golf club with the arm of surgery. I have been swinging it 100 times per day since. It's easier to exercise with one arm. I guess I do everything I am not supposed to do but I know my limits am not thying to mess any thing up but I know what I can do. Playing golf is not a problem at all. Just like never had surgery.
