Driver optimization

Hi

These numbers are averages from 10 swings that I made on a Sports Coach -simulator. They claim they are accurate inside couple %.

The driver is Cobra AMP 9.5 deg with the standard stiff shaft (Aldila rip?)

Club head speed: 113 mph

Ball speed: 151.5 mph

Launch angle: 14.6 degs

Spin: 3961 rpm.

I was shooting for a maybe little too low tee for my preference. From what I gather reading the net, my spin values are quite high? The launch angle seems to be quite good for 110 mph swing?

Apart from learning a new swing, what could I do to get the spin value down?

You could try a lower lofted head or a lower spin shaft (such as the diamana white).  Depending on your tempo, you might be on the verge of x-stiff.

You are losing a ton of distance with that spin number. My guess is those are miscenter hits? I'm on my phone so I can't see your HDCP. How good of a player are you? Your spin numbers should be closer to 1,800 to 2,000.

Hard to find lower lofts for lefties, might try the lower spin shaft option then. Cheaper too. I'm around 10 HCP but it's winter here now so my swing is not calibrated too well, not hitting it in the center. Still I recall that with my previous driver I had similar spin values, same loft and stiff shaft that one too.

Try a different shaft, that spin is crazy. The Launch angle is not bad, so I would look for a lower spin option. With a 113 mph, I would have to agree with K-Troop as some standard stiff stock options can be on the weaker side.

Just a couple of thoughts.  Your swing speed / ball speed works out to a smash factor of 1.33, that's not where you want to be and could indicate that you were missing the sweet spot by some.  Were you using impact tape?  You said you were going after a low tee?  Were you coming into the ball steep with a negative angle of attack?

If you were going down after it you may have been getting under it and catching the ball high on the club face where the face roll would make the initial launch angle much higher than it would be with a center hit.  If that's the case the neg angle of attack with essentially "skying" the ball could give you very high spin and a deceptively good launch angle.  Before changing anything else you might try it again with a more comfortable set up and tee height.

I sometimes hit with negative AoA and that results in even higher spin values and visible curving up. This time though I was consentrating on hitting it to the optimal launch angle, or rather as high as possible with as little spin as possible. I think not even one of those shots had spin under 3000 rpm.

OK, I was just speculating on a mechanical factor that might explain the smash factor and spin numbers at the same time.  But that throws that out.

Assuming a positive or neutral AoA and near center contact, then I would try a stiffer tip shaft as others have suggested.  I don't know what shafts and heads you have access to, but I think it shouldn't be too hard to find a combination that would give you better numbers than that.
