Xp's are heavier than SL's and Dynalite's. Xp's will hit a ball mid flight and SL's will hit a low ball flight according to True Temper's specs. Have you thought about KBS or Project X. Have a look on  golfclubshaftreview.com  for all the shaft information.

Remember to account for the affect of shaft weight on clubhead speed, which influences ball height on launch.

True Temper has two traditional iron shaft families, Dynalite Gold and Dynamic Golf. Both are heavier shafts (about 120 grams), except for two SL models which weigh about 104 grams.

Dynalite Gold: D Gold , D 100, D Gold SL: Low bend point, soft tips

Dynamic Golf: DG, DG XP, DG SL: High bend, firm tips

Low bend point gives a higher launch, high bend gives a lower launch.

Before I went to the GolfWorks school, I got a demo 6i to match my X20 Tour irons. My playing irons  had Project X shafts, and I reshafted the demo 6i with a Dynamic Gold SL to compare the two shafts. Here are the specs:

PX 5.0 Rifle Flighted

TM Dynamic Gold SL R300

* FCM = Frequency Cycle Matching, a system for comparing shaft flexes across

manufacturers. Both the above shafts are considered R flex by makers, but R300

is more than a half-flex softer than the PX 5.0.

I did side-by-side tests with the 6 irons both outdoors and on the launch monitor.  Outdoors, the more flexible and lighter SL R300 actually launched the slightly higher and a bit longer than the PX. In a crosswind, however, the R300 also blew around more.

On the launch monitor, I averaged 72.9 MPH clubhead speed with the PX, and 74.1 with the R300. Also, R300 averaged 3 yards farther in distance. The golf pro said since I was working on my swing, I should just keep the PX shafts.

Hope this helps. Also, check out Ralph Maltby's web site - http://www.RalphMaltby.com - he has several links on shaft selection. Also see shaft maker sites.

I found the SL to be a bit lower launching, but not a lot.  Good shaft.

    • Live Updates from the range! Open the club face at address, and trust that you’re gonna be able to get the face in a good position at impact. I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
