Purpose of using yellow balls?

Now when it comes to a sport like tennis, I understand why the ball would be yellow; because it is easier to follow and focus on. In golf, that would be an irrelevant fact. Most people I have talked to say they buy them because they look cool, which I what I would say if asked a question like this. Anyway, what does anyone think is an ADVANTAGE to playing with yellow golf balls?

Because they believe the ball is easier to follow and find.

I used yellow Srixon balls yesterday.

It was easier to work out which ball was mine while walking up the fairway as everyone else was playing white balls.

I also think there's an advantage that there is less chance of someone in another group mistaking your ball for theirs and playing it (as happened to me last week despite my ball having clear markings).

That's understandable but wouldn't it be easier to find a white ball on fairway than a yellow one?

I can tell you that the Tour yellow Srixons are easier to see in the air and in the rough than a white ball.  They more than just yellow, they have little what I'd call sparkles in them to make them even more visible.

I'm pretty sure I can find any colored ball easily in the fairway!

The appeal for me is they are easier to see while in the air.

For me they are easier to follow in the air period. Past my mid 40s and now into wearing reading glasses etc they yellow ball is definitely easier to see in flight, much the same on the ground

Not only are they easier to see, it saves a bit of time in my foursome since it is always obvious which ball is mine so I dont have to go identify each ball before I hit (I play with 3 guys that all have to check out each white ball because they never seem to remember where their tee shots went)

Different balls have different shades of yellow. I like those balls with light shades of yellow, like the NXT Tour S. Very easy to see. It almost seems to glow.

On the other hand, my favorite ball is the Srixon Q Star, but its shade of yellow is darker and with a hint of green. I don't like it and I don't find it easier to see on the fairway. So I rather use the Q Star in white.

I have a really hard time picking up a white ball in flight (especially if I keep my eye on the ball & head down).     I prefer yellow to white, but prefer super high vis orange to yellow.

Easier to find and keep separate from my partners in my foursome, especially in dormant winter grass - white balls seems to blend in with the grass while the optic yellow is easy to see from long distance.

I suspect it involves individual differences of the human eye. For non-white balls, my all time favorite was different brands of orange balls. I found them very easy to track, even on cloudy days in the spring and fall when a white ball "disappears" 50 yards down range. Wayward shots were easy to spot in the rough.

Yellow balls were OK, expect on cloudy days. I found the lime green balls almost impossible to use - hard to track on bright sunny days... if a lime went into the rough, it was like I had to step on the ball to find it.

consider yourself lucky then, you've got a heckuva lot more options than the rest of us ... I'm still waiting for the neon orange Pro-V1 !!

I can spot them easier and find that the cover is more durable.

easier to see and sets your ball apart form anyone else without marking it.
