Big name != best for you.

I was struggling with my "swing" last summer, back when I was just really starting to think I'd take golf seriously. I saw a pro at the range give two consecutive lessons: the first was to a guy who had to have been a scratch player, or at least close. He could certainly hit 'em at the range like one! Must've been just drills or something, hitting shot after shot. Then, while I'm still struggling, his next lesson is a 5 year old girl who had never swung a club before. Half an hour later she's hitting the 50-yard sign. I asked for his card, took a few lessons, and am very happy. I went from trying to break 150 to thinking that breaking 90 is happening soon (like, next week or two soon).

Very well. I doubt that anyone can bring someone from novice to single-digit in a year. I need to post today's score and update my handicap, but seeing as how I just shot in the 90s on a course I'd never seen before, I'd say it's going very well.

That's tough because I've taken a little bit from every one of them. Sometimes I learned more from the ones I completely disagreed with. Not because I started taking their advice but because it made me really think out why I disagreed... that let me to more conclusions and better understanding of my own beliefs.

Ultimately it led me to my 5 steps that I now teach to all my students.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

My dad was the best instructor to ever give me lessons. He isn't a PGA professional but he played in college and has 45 years of experience under his belt. I learned 90% what I know about golf from him.

You're a lucky guy. Almost everyone I know that had either a scratchish player or a pro as a father became a player.

Just curious: how far into double digits?

Even 10.0 to scratch in a summer is impressive, so I'm just wondering what degree of impressed I should be (low end is "very very impressed"). How much dedication did you go though?
