60° Wedge, LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

Have one, went to the 58, better results, but still rely heavily on my SW,AW & PW. 58 is only used for short sided shots. Need more practice time with it!

that's the thing that kills me: INCONSISTENCY!

I don't use mine if the ground is hard-they bounce too much and being a forged blade have zero forgiveness! I find my sand wedge perfect if I want it to go higher just open the face and play it forward in my stance.

We are all good wedge players from a decent lie 100 yards out! when we are 10-50 it gets more interesting...

I remember reading, I believe in Golf Digest, Bob Vokey was quoted as saying most players would be better off with a 58*. I couldn't agree more. I used to have a 60* Cleveland 588 and switched to a 58* Vokey. I always had trouble with the 60* sliding under the ball, the ball just rolls up the clubface and I'd get no distance, I would have to hit with the shaft angled way forward to avoid this. I've never had that trouble with the 58*, it's just as versatile too, but easier too hit. 2* makes a lot of difference.

Folks....wedges are not for distance... Pull out more club if you need more distance... And pitches....don't just stick to one wedge...but select the proper loft for the situation.

When you're playing around quick greens from thick 4" rough , you should use a 60* and put some extra weight on it. It is indespensible (more accurate that taking an SW and opening the face.)
But the bottom line is: whatever works for you, works...

I ditched the 3W-5W combination for a 4W and added the 60º LW
I´m a Dave Pelz believer and I practice the 3x4 system, BUT I don´t hit the LW in ALL situations like other guys do, only when required, that´s it :

- Thin lies
- Lobs
- Quick greens
- Flops
- Very short chips

In the 80-50 yards range, my go-to club is the GW

i have voted to put up with it as i have only just got one a 60*, when i pull a shot of with it it feels great. the only thing now is to be more confident with it and fined my distances or comfort zones to hit from at the moment i am tending to us it more from just around the greens

To those who find the 58* more useful:

I am just wondering why you guys feel that a 58* is better then a 60*. To my 2* doesn't seem like it would make a difference, other then distance, but as stated before wedges are for finesse (sp?) and not distance. Any information would be appreciated.

I used to HATE my lob wedge for full shots. I had a really high bounce like 14* on my lob wedge. I had the same experiance as you and was ready to call it quits on my lober. Then I got a new X-tour wedge with low bounce (9*) and now I am hitting my full shots consistantly 80-90 yards whereas before I was lucky for 60 yrds. Bounce on the wedge is VERY important you need to experiment what is right for your swing. My new wedge is my favorite club in the bag and gets used more than any other club.

The purpose of a lob wedge is not distance, it's for spin and accuracy on short shots. I'd rather hit a lob wedge 60 yards than 90...

Only use I can see is in the bunker or on the flop shot. Both of which can be hit with an open SW so I dont see the sense. I never liked the feel of a full shot with one so it made a short stay in my bag. Question I got is should I get rid of my 5 wood for a 18 degree hybrid?

It saves my ass every time I shortside myself, which is more often than I like. It is also my favorite greenside bunker club, as long as it's not a long bunker shot.

I just traded the 588s for the Vokeys and picked up the 54/10 and the 60/04. The 60 had the same amount of bounce as my 588 but a slightly different flange. That puppy played so tight that I traded it for the 60/08 because I was chunking everything. The 60/08 made a huge difference and is so much more playable for me. I use it out of most bunkers and from 50-85 yards out. I can flop it around the greens when I need to and can hit those little downhill chips with it.

The big trick with this club is to know when to use it and when not too...

I just find that i hit (vokey SM60.08) under it so much that i lose a lot of distance. that's why i use the 58 degree model. it gives me plenty of spin, and i am less prone to chunk it or catch it too far under the ball.

I have a borrowed Ping Tour 60/14 that I love. I don't get to use it very often, but when I do I love the drop-n-stop ball action I get with it. As I replace the borrowed clubs with my own, I will definitely have a 60 in there.

My 60/08 saved my rear today. From the fairway, sand and chipping on some really fast greens, it was on.

I hate the 60 degree wedge...the better I got the more cute I began to get around the greens and with a wedge that wide open there is not a lot of room for error, I haven't had it in my bag for about 6 years. I carry a 50, 56, and 58 mostly for short tight bunker shots.

I have two wedges, a Cleveland 588 (60*) and a Mizuno(58*). I used the Mizuno for a few rounds and realized how much more I liked the Cleveland 588. From 55-70 yards, it's a great club.
