I've currently got a Taylormade Burner 2.0 superfast driver, an old Ram Wizard 3 wood, Mizuno JPX Fli Hi 3 hybrid and MD Seve 4 hybrid.

I really struggle with my driver, 3 wood and 3 hybrid and I'm currently getting lessons to improve.  I'm 6ft 4" in height and I find that I really feel uncomfortable with the length of the burner.  Thinking about possibly investing in a new driver and fairway wood (i've been told that a 5 wood may be a good replacement) and maybe even replacing the 3 hybrid.  Ideally I'd like to go for the same type for all 3 clubs.

I'm a 25/26 handicapper but I've been told by my local pro that with the distance I'm getting, I should be shooting in the 80s and not the low 100's. Inconsistency is my main problem.

What clubs would people recommend?  American Golf are currently doing the Callaway Razr X Black driver and fairway for £200 but I've also read that the shaft lenghts are roughly the same as the burner etc.

Thanks

If it's only the length of the shafts that bother you about those clubs, instead of buying new clubs, why not just get shorter shafts fitted? Would more than likely save you a little money.

I actually don't feel comfy at all with the burner.  Hoping that I'll change with it but not a fan at all unfortunately.  The JPX 3 hybrid is a horrible club in my hands aswell.  I really regret buying that one.

Well, since you're set on replacing the clubs, I can only recommend going somewhere that allows you to hit their demos. In my opinion, that's the only way to make a proper decision about purchasing a club. A lot of manufacturers make good drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids and it's just a matter of finding the one you feel comfortable with.

I'm a little confused about whether you want a longer driver (since you mentioned that you are 6'4'') or a shorter driver.

First, how tall you are makes little difference in the length you need. The most important is your wrist to floor measurement and next is simply how much skill you have to handle a longer club.

Some tall people have very long arms and upper bodies and some short people have very short arms and upper bodies, and vice versa.

Most drivers off of the rack today are too long for most of our skill levels and in fact most pros are playing drivers shorter than what we are buying (and trying unsuccessfully to play). If you want a longer club I would be very surprised if you could hit it more consistently than a shorter club, unless there are other problems with the shaft dynamics on that club (flex, spine, kick point, weight, ect.).

I had a driver I simply couldn't hit consistently even at 44 1/2 inches until I figured out that the spine was in the wrong place. Fixed that and now I hit it just fine.

I find the burner too long and any longer would cause me a whole lot of problems. Any thoughts on the razrx black?

    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
