Does anyone have issues when it's raining/wet out of your ball going left? I really had to slow my swing WAY down today in wet weather or everything went left. I kept cleaning my spikes, but it didn't seem to solve the problem...

I normally play a cut, but today it was just left...no cut.

I've been hitting 7-10 FIR and 9-13 GIR lately, but today I couldn't even hit the broad side of a barn. I just never felt solid over the ball...or connected to the ground.

Anyone have any tips to overcome this in wet weather?

Thanks,

J

So many reasons I doubt you get an answer that you are happy with. I suggest an investment in a good camera to video tape your swing and post it on the site under the "My Swing" section . I also strongly suggest you sign up for evolvr (you can look it up in the search function) and you can get some help with your swing. Good Luck

Good Luck

I'm actually really satisfied with my swing... it's not perfect, but then again that's what makes golf different and such a challenge. I truly believe it had a lot to do with my shoe grip. Over the winter I spent hours working with a golf specific trainer, TPI certified. I went from 106mph swing speed to 115+mph on good days. However, sometimes I find that the extra power is very difficult to control in wet weather or when my spikes get clogged.

I was mostly looking for stance/posture tips that might help me work through playing in wetter conditions...thanks for the feedback on swing videos, but I have 2 pros that I work with and we are all happy with my swing at the moment.

Thanks,

J

If it's only when trying to "slow down" when it's wet or raining, it's just that your are too conscious about the conditions and trying to steer the ball, and you are releasing before the usual spot because your brain says "it's time to release". If you are happy with your swing overall, on wet days maybe try to weaken the grip to delay that release a bit. When you try and alter your natural tendencies for the conditions, all kinds of things go wrong. Like people who swing out of their shoes into the wind- they hit a balloon shot because the hit down on it and put more spin on the ball and it goes nowhere. So harder doesn't mean distance, and easier doesn't always mean straight. But if you DO have a decent swing in the dry, AND have confidence in it, then you shouldn't change it in the wet. Try to play as normal as possible and you won't be worried about the lefties.

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
