Would you get new clubs if you were working swing changes?

I am returning to the game from a 2 year layoff. I have 8 year old Titleist 704 CB's and feel the need for new clubs. New start. New clubs! But, I took a lesson last week and I have a few old bad habits to work on in order to improve my swing path and ball stricking. Would you advise waiting a bit before getting clubs - see if the swing changes affect the fitting? Or, get fitted for new clubs and see about adjusting them as the swing changes? There is no rush to get new clubs. Just a personal preference. The Pro got all practical on me and said my clubs were fine. Boo hiss! Thoughts? amac

I have to agree with your pro--its not like you are hitting yard sale specials! You have great clubs and as your swing develops you will have a better idea of what you need/want.

It makes sense and not just because I buy way too many clubs than I probably should.  Think about it....you are implementing swing changes, why not get the new clubs now instead of implementing the swing changes and then getting new clubs and then having to adjust again?

I think you can go either way on this ...

I bought some cast clubs at a good price so I would not wear out my expensive forgings during the process, which is taking longer than anticipated.

I would stick with the CB's until you feel confident with the changes, and then get fitted for the new irons. The new swing may cause fitting adjustments that aren't incorporated into the CB's. Your swingspeed may change during the process, etc. So, I'd wait, get fitted, and then buy the new ones as a reward for going through a difficult process... swing change.

Keep the old clubs and spend all the money you save on balls. I prefer to tee off on every hole of every round with a brand new ball. It's a feeling akin to manfully donning a pair of clean, lightly starched cotton boxers in the morning after powdering your (other) balls with Gold Bond. A great fresh start -- to a new day, to a new hole*.

(* The one on the golf course. I don't powder my own. You really need to watch out for zinc oxide infiltration.)
