Pretty sure they made most of that back by selling the ad rights/on site tickets at a slightly higher than normal rate as some sort of 'novelty'.

Now it seems like you're just making up numbers to fit which particular argument you are trying to make at the time.  Did they limit the ticket sales and lose 10 million (like is being reported everywhere) or did they allow 40k in as your friend states, which is roughly what they let in for most other opens, and not lose the 10M in gate receipts???  Or, are you saying that as goodwill to the people of Philadelphia they let in 15,000 people for free??

There you go again, arguing for the sake of arguing.

Dude, there were a minimum of 5,000 people who volunteered for the event. They were given passes that were good even on the days they were not working. Accompanied juniors were allowed in for free. The place was like a kiddie park half the time. They were giving out free passes like candy to members and residents in the area who were inconvenienced. Cops and firemen from all the surrounding townships were let in free, military, etc...

Do the math.

Yes, but it is well worth the loss so that jerks like Zach Johnson can show their true colours. At least some golf fans will wake up. They're all nicey nice when they win and get to praise their imaginary friend, but when they don't do well they're bitter and blame anyone but themeselves or their "Lord and Saviour". Funny that.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.
