  1. 1. The men and women displaying obnoxious behavior at an PGA event should be

    • Be kicked out of the event
      59
    • Be left alone
      8
    • Be kick out and black listed from attending future events
      14
    • Be forced to have a person follow them around their next round of golf screaming a the top of there lungs when they swing

I say kick them out because players are now tweeting about it. People might say the yelling comes after impact but what happens when someone gets drunk and yells out the split second before impact and screws up someones swing? I say get em out of there before one of these jerks causes someone a stroke or more, heaven forbid in a major.

Let the players vote whether they should be kicked out. I find it annoying, but not enough that I think someone should be kicked out. However, if the players have a problem with it, they need to GTFO.

Because you didn't have the choice, "Be forced into the 9th Level of Hell as per Dante's Inferno", I chose the last one.

I am waiting for someone to yell out to Keegan, "While we're young!" I thought that this would be prevalent material for the USGA events. Maybe, "In the hole" guy can become relevant again if he switched over.

I was watching an LPGA tournament a few weeks back.  Paula Creamer was taking way too long on one hole.  Judy Rankin made the comment that maybe she should say, "While We're Young!" to Paula!  Now that would have been classic!

I think they should get one warning then kicked out if they continue. It's starting to get annoying because these guys are trying to come up with different things to say. One tournament I heard someone yell, Hamburger. What really annoyed me were the knuckleheads that yelled "your not Tiger at Chris Wood. Now it's a direct attack at a specific player. What's next? Jackass? I'm all for Cheering a favorite player or a great shot. I heard comments that these guys paid so they are entitled to say what they want. What about the rest of the people that paid? They are there to enjoy golf.

Seems like "you da man" is thankfully not quite as popular as it once was. It would be nice if these idiots seeking their 15 minutes would realize how stupid they sound and just stop, especially with the non-specific, non-golf comments. On the other hand, some have become acceptable, like LUUKE and BOOO when appropriate. Of course the 16th at Waste Management has become a tradition of sorts, and even a lot of the players seem to embrace it. As for kicking them out, as long as they don't interfere with play, I guess let them stay. I think that would be a can of worms full of potential unintended consequences such as the behavior police becoming overly intrusive.

I've finally had enough, this PGA for me has been ruined by people who like the sound of their voice way too much, the stuff they shout is loud enough to curdle milk.. Im pretty sure Jim Furyk just turned around and said something to someone too, proving its starting to get on the players nerves.. Time this is put to a stop, encouragement is fine, shouting random loud things because you like the sound of your own voice is not..

Especially when it could be effecting someones game.. Throw them out.

Yesterday, right after Stenson hit, some guy yelled, "Swedish Fish". I had never heard that one before. Luckily, I did not hear it again.

They ruin every tee shot with their yells to be noticed! The PGA should hire cameramen to catch the screaming offenders. Since they are looking for attention they could show them on the Jumbotron screen with embarrassing captions like...screaming banshee, I'm a dick, etc. (of course don't show them on television or the floodgates will open).

It's getting to the point where, like women's tennis, because of the grunting, you just can't watch it.

It was driving me nuts today, all these morons thinking it's about them

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I totally agree, it was totally unwatchable, I was cringing with anticipation waiting for what the next stupid shout would be.. totally embaressing.

I volunteered as a hole marshal at the Senior PGA Championship in May. Most of the loud rah-rah near the tee box was by people following a particular player.

More irritating to the players was the "social club" clusters around some of the greens. You'd have a couple of people run into each other in the crowd and start "old home week" chatter.

  • Marshal instructions were to hold up our hands as the players got ready to hit, to let the crown know it was quiet time.
  • If you had people who were still talking, you would say loudly, "Ladies and gentlemen, quiet please!"
  • Next step was to talk to the cluster between shots if they didn't get the word. Never had to do this: others in the crowd would counsel the talkers on their rude behavior.

Each hole had one or two hole captains with a walkie-talkie to summons security if need be. If security has to come, people got thrown out of the tournament. Security mainly was needed for someone who had too much to drink. You want to let security handle the drunks - security knows the legal niceties of how to escort them out.

In today's PGA tournament, won by Jason Dufner, the announcers noted several people yelling before the player hit the ball. Jim Furyk pointed at someone in the crowd a couple of times right after his tee shot.

I personally find it distracting from the shots, but when watching from a television it isn't too bad. Mainly because I'm busy trying to figure out where the golf ball is going in relation to the fairway when all I can see is a lurching view of just the ball in the air. I wish they would use their shot tracker, or whatever they call it, that highlights the line the golf ball took much more often than they do. It's interesting to me to watch the variety of shot shapes and trajectories that different players will use.

The PGA Tour could put an end to if they wanted.  All theyd have to do is throw out anyone who yells it.  I would agree though that its a potential PR nightmare and one that they probably dont want to deal with.

As long as its yelled AFTER that swing, its not really hurting anyone, although it is annoying.

Nobody watching at home knows who is yelling the crap. The only one who knows are the players, caddies, tournament officials, and gallery at that particular tee. Vigilante justice should prevail :D (just kidding)

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
