Aside from price of course, which is fairly prohibitive, is there any reason not to play ball with tour level spin? Balls all go the same distance, but since switching to pro v1/20Xi balls from the e6, I have a much easier time working the ball off the tee and from the fairway (to the point where I can draw a gap wedge) my shots hold the greens, my chips check when I want them to, and they feel great off the putter. Why wouldn't you want that?

I think partially balls that encourage more spin could be more problematic for people who have issues with slices/hooks. Also, a lot of people who are just beginning or are not all that good don't care about working the ball they just want to hit it straight.

I prefer to have my chips release, so a really grippy cover doesn't work for me.   I never had much luck controlling that hop and stop, while roll is easily predicable.  I want the ball to roll out to give a better chance of hitting the hole.  I last played the Srixon Z-star Tour Yellow because it wasn't quite as sticky as some of the other balls for greenside play.  Still spins nicely on full shots.

I actually have a box of 60 Pro-V1's sitting in my closet that I don't use. I favor Bridgestones, Srixons, or even Nikes instead. While I will admit that I occasionaly miss the sight of a Pro-V1 taking one bounce and stopping after a greenside chip, the benefits to my long game outweigh that, in my opinion.

I tend to have a very high ball flight with a fast swing speed on my full shots, so I generate a fair amount of spin, even on distance balls. With Pro-V's, I can't tell you the number of times I have watched a "good" tee shot on a par three hit the front of the green and spin 5 yards off the front. Now those, same shots tend to settle within 2-5 feet of where they hit the green originally. This is a much preferable outcome for me.

I will also echo Jeremie's comments about the spinnier balls causing problems off tee. While I am getting better, I still battle a case of the snap hooks from time to time. I find my misses to be greater with tour balls than with distance balls.

I've experienced the opposite effect. When I switched to Bridgestone e7's I actually started seeing my scores improve. Along the lines of what FourPutt wrote, I too enjoy a little release. They don't release as much as a low end ball but they all don't check up right away. I haven't seen any noticable difference in how they play off the tee in regards to me slicing on bad shots.

I definitely have had some chips that are well struck hop and stick 6 feet Short. This is also coincides with improving my chipping,so it may just be used to getting used to the distance control. You must have a shit load higher swing speed than me (I'm about 105), because my irons (out of the fairway) usually take one hop and stop, they never suck back that far. Its actually something I'm working on with my wedges to let me use the back of the green on front pins.

don't know if this is true but most golfers under club and/or miss hit there approach shots short. that extra roll is a help

It may be the greens your playing on. I play on pretty soft greens so my balls usually take one hop and stop. I've played harder courses though and the ball draw back a considerable amount.
