or, as a beginner, am I better off waiting until I am consistent before getting it adjusted?

It seems when your are fitted you hit better and more consistent. But as beginner your swing is not consistent and erratic so the fitting does not make sense to begin with.  But maybe more important to begin with is to find a swing that fits you before any club fitting. As a desperate beginner trying to hit the ball myself i am still finding the right swing methodology and consistency that hopefully comes with it. Until this is not found i refrain from any club fitting as it surely will have to be changed once i do find the proper swing mechanics (if i ever manage to find).

I like this comment.  I played around with my adjustable driver quite a bit - I like to tinker.

Once I got a few lessons and now have a much better swing (IMO), then I played with the settings again.  Now it's pretty much back to all the neutral settings - (no bias either way).

this driver just adjusts face open/closed - and it comes along with a bit of upright/flat as a side effect.  The new drivers can do a lot of this independently - that might be a fitting worth doing if I buy a new one someday....maybe

I didn't play for 3 yrs, then got a new set fitted this year, (I'd had my old clubs over 10 yrs) but after a lesson and plenty of rounds my swing has evolved since the fitting, the only adjustment to my new clubs was to flatten the lie by 2*, but luckily I chose to ignore the fitter, and got the clubs shortened by 3/4" instead thus reducing the lie slightly, and also the swing weight, giving them a similar feel to my previous clubs, now my swing has evolved and is more consistant, im going back at the end of summer to get another lie test and see if they still need adjusting, then voila! Clubs made perfectly for me! I would say try and hold back a bit, have a lesson, work on your swing, then get fitted to your swing! It's what I should have done, but I was impatient, luckily, I can still get the lie test re done and altered if need be! And I've had all year to get used to my clubs and work on my swing!

IMHO, it all depends on several factors:

#1) If you are taking lessons from a pro, let your teacher make the decision.

#2) As a beginner, are you hitting a fade or slice?  If so, I would recommend adjusting the face for a draw bias. (Do the opposite for a hook or draw.)

#3) As a beginner, are you hitting the ball lower than you would like?  If so, I would increase the loft on the shaft. (If you are hitting it too high then decrease the loft.)

After a round or two, make sure that you make minor adjustments to the driverv, and determine for yourself if you saw any improvement. If you didn't then return to the original setting for another round or two and then try another adjustment.  Eventually, I think that you will find the adjustments that you will be comfortable using.

Depends on exactly what doesn't fit about your club.

If it's adjustable you should be able to tinker with the settings and /or weights and find a combination that works okay.

You can put tape on the face and mess with it until you are getting consistent impacts, and you can choke down on the club a little at a time until you find the length that you can handle for consistent impacts.

Once you find that length you can either always choke down to that point or have the shaft cut down.

I am thinking that I will leave it as is for now after reading the responses and thinking about it. When I was playing last weekend I managed a couple really nice drives(by my standards) including one nice draw, as opposed to my usual fade or slice(after a lot of time on the range). I have been focusing on getting around quicker to close the club face, as I usually leave it a little open, and have been making progress. I guess that if I adjust the club for draw, my results might improve dramatically, but my swing would stop improving, if that makes sense. I think I will wait until I stop seeing progress.

Screw it, when I bought my adjustable driver, it meant that I had 16 different settings to play with - I toyed with them all and may again this weekend because I can .

So did I. Until one day it dawned on me that most of my problem was that every time I adjusted it the shaft spine was changing.

I found the one setting where the shaft didn't feel like wrestling with a snake and left it there. After two years of wrestling with that snake my rounds have been much more stress free and I'm hitting many more fairways (one problem solved). Now if I can only figure out how to keep from messing up the rest of the way to the green.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
