Practically every team in the NFL does everything you are trying to push on Manning, including every team still in the playoffs.  Hard counts have been around forever.

Oh, totally ... But it's not the hard count that I'm talking about. It's how the offensive linemen were "drawn" into a false start EVERY TIME ... Which reeks of Peyton manning antics.

Never thought I'd ever say this, but I'm really rooting for the Patriots next week!  I've always admired Peyton Manning's skills, but always been annoyed with some of his antics.  His old cheap move was the "Hey look, the defense is subbing and there's one guy who's 60 yards away from the play and jogging off the field who has no intention of being involved in the play but I'm going to hike it real quick so I can get a cheap 5 yards."

I learned today that his new move is to try to get the defensive linemen to flinch with hard counts, then have his offensive linemen stand up and smack the guy and act like they were drawn offsides.  Give me a break.  Bush league.  Heck, one of the times today, the defensive lineman wasn't even in the neutral zone, but they gave the Broncos the call anyway.

The point of the this rule is to try and prevent the defense from INTENTIONALLY causing the offensive players to false start.  The point WAS NOT to give Peyton Manning the idea that he could cause the defensive players to flinch and then instruct his offensive linemen to act like they were drawn offside when they clearly weren't.

This kind of thing is in the same category as soccer and NBA players taking dives to try and draw foul calls.

Lame and bush league.

So you think Manning is the only QB that advises his OL to do this?  With all the cheating that has gone on in the NFL; including drugs, spygate, injuring players on purpose, I do find it a bit humorous that you have twice now called Manning Bush league for simple things as this.

Everyone has their small things or pet peeves.  I will admit I am a bit bias towards Manning because I've been watching him since 94 and know what he continues to do off the field still, even here in Knoxville.  I think Manning is a football genius and does bend the rules a bit, but I do think most NFL teams do the same, maybe just not as well.

I have no idea whether he is or not ... and in fact have no idea that he even does.  It just smells that way to me.

And what is so humorous about me calling that move bush league?  Just because there are worse infractions being committed?  That's like asking why I'm so interested in football when there are people dying of starvation all over the world.  What does it have to do with anything?  My issue with this has no bearing on whether or not others are cheating.

No, I'm not a fan of Belicheck at all.  But I rooted for the Ravens in the playoffs last year and they had a murderer on their team, so I guess I don't have the best judgment.

I also agree that I'm more annoyed with him at this moment because they just beat my team, but that has little bearing on my feelings of the practice.  I've always hated his other bush league move, and today was the first time I noticed this one.

And I'll also just state that I think that had the Broncos not pulled this move one single time today .... they still would have won.  IMO, these penalties had no bearing on the game ... they just annoy me.

LOL ... I almost added a comment to the end of my last post (to fourputt) stating that I didn't really have any basis for whining even if the Chargers were screwed out of a win since, well, karma, basically.

I simply find it funny that you consider the act that Manning was performing so bush league and it draws your ire so much.  I say this because you mentioned it earlier in this thread as well.  It also happens across the league and I would wager every team does or has done it at some point.  To me there are many more things that go on within a game that I consider worse, that are actually against the rules, and people get away with it.  I mean, it is really easy to stop this particular action after all.  Don't jump off-sides and you have nothing to worry about.  I can see it happening once, maybe twice..   but 5 or 6 times?  That is simply a lack of discipline.

But some people follow rules to the letter and some bend them but don't break them.  I've always been part of the latter crew so I suppose that is why it doesn't bother me that he does this.  If you are a part of the former crew, then I imagine its a PITA to see.

It's because the talking heads praise Manning for this kind of stuff afterwards and that is what annoys me.  He is so talented and so prepared that he doesn't need to resort to "flopping" to succeed.

Let's leave that crap for the Jake Delhommes and the Andy Daltons of the league ... the ones that need every edge they can get.  Not the (arguably) best QB to ever play the game.

Come on, Manning, you are better than that.

And, for the record, I could be wrong about this.  I fully admit it's all speculation.  But this is the first time I've watched a game where every single time a defensive lineman flinched (even when they didn't cross the line) the offensive lineman "got fooled" into jumping up and tapping the offender on the head.  Heck, it could be the offensive line coach instructing them and Manning isn't even involved ... in which case I'll apologize to him next time I see him. ;)

After the disappointing end to the season for the Saints, I guess I'm left pulling for the 49ers. Certainly can't pull for the Seahawks. And I don't think I could stomach hearing announcers gloat over another SB victory for Brady or Manning.

I don't know what your problem is with it, aside from the fact that it was Manning doing it.  If Rivers had made the Broncos jump, I'd lay odds you'd have been fine with it.  It's called playing with a bit of discipline.  Lord knows that the Broncos have pulled some undisciplined boners several times this season with idiotic personal fouls caused by a lack of self control.  I was just sitting here giggling by the time he got the 3rd jump.  The Chargers were trying to jump the snap, so catching them at it was just a fair turnabout.

Yep. Under the old rules only the quarterback and/or the center could slow down the defense from timing the snap count. Now any offensive lineman can do it, and without even the risk of snapping the ball when nobody is ready in hopes of catching somebody in the neutral zone.

Just another of the many rule changes that benefit the offense. Nobody should be surprised that quarterbacks and linemen use it to their advantage whenever they can.

I don't like most of the rule changes that help the offense and make a mockery of career statistics but in this case the answer for the defense is the same as it always was.
