I recently moved to Texas for a fresh start and left most of my clubs in Michigan. Got into disc golf as it's cheaper to start fresh and most courses around Austin are free. Just wondering if we have some fellow disc golfers on the forum? Austinites are encouraged to share!

Sweet jesus. I have 4 discs! Looking to get a 13 speed driver soon. Being in the Metro Austin area, we have like 20 courses within 45 minutes from me. I read your post in the disc golf group. Any luck getting a course built nearer to you?

Not yet. :-(

I don't throw much over speed 9 or so. Consider those speed ratings more of a speed requirement , like how you wouldn't use an XX flex shaft unless your swing speed is 120+ MPH.

I almost won a long drive comp against my buddies today with my buzzz throwing it for ~300 ft. Playing my buddies destroyer, ape, and boss,I'm leaning towards purchasing the boss. Should help me get to the basket sooner when we play from the tips. Avenger SS is my fastest disc at the moment.

I can throw a putter that far if I get a good rip on it.

The world record (admittedly, it's in the desert, on a windy day) is 855' or so. Pros regularly throw drivers 450' or so if they're given enough airspace (no trees) to do it.

But 300' is still pretty good. There are a lot of people who play a bit and still don't even throw that far. My brother-in-law, for example. :)

P.S. I love my Avenger SS. Consider a Lace. They're high speed but relatively easy to throw. My 170s flip to flat, and my 174 is more overstable for a mild headwind.

Played my bud's 172g champion boss today. Never threw a disc that far in my life! Finally made two par 4's on my home course birdie-able. Once I go to disc nation for a new disc I'll compare the lace and boss side by side. (They have a driving range to test before you buy :-P). It's a pretty looking disc from what I've seen!

I've been playing for about 4 years now but pretty much stopped after starting up golfing this year. I'm very casual but consider myself pretty darn good. I only bring 3 discs with me, Blizzard champion Katana driver, Champion Spider mid-range, Aviar putter. Carry those in one hand and a brew or flask in the other.

It's fun and it's free, but I'd rather be golfing. Sadly I can't get all my friends into golfing so that's when I go disc golfing.

The next event I'm planning to play in is the Ice Bowl the weekend after the Super Bowl. I'm hoping for unusually warm weather. :)

    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
