my local golf pro gave me this drill this past week, which i implemented this weekend and i thought i would share.

Here is the tip-- Tee to green, take no practice swings. continue to line up your shots as you normally would, but don't swing the club until you address the ball.

According to Kris (my pro), my biggest issue is that I need to trust my swing more and get less technical. This accomplishes this.

For the round, I hit 12 or 13 greens and my ball striking was as good as it has been all year. I am not advocating adding this to your preshot routine, but it definitely improved my confidence.

My first practice swing is rarely worse than my actual shot. I may give this a try next weekend. If I duff too many - and I doubt I will - I'll stop, mainly in the interest of pace of play. But if I'm hitting a reasonable approximation of my usual self, I'll keep it up.

Interesting. I play like that, not purposely, just the way I've always done it. The only practice swings I take are when chipping.

My practice swings lately have been much less than full swings rather than the two or three full-swings I used to take so I'm already heading this direction. I don't think I'd like to go completely without though.

That's what I do, except for chips from iffy lies. No practice swings, even on putts

I've gone back and forth with many of my friends and fellow instructors on this. I think there are good arguments either way... whenever it comes to no definite answer I default to "If it works, then do it."

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

Agreed- If you are mechanical- trying to fix your swing on the course, no practice swings will help make you more feel oriented. If you are a feel player- then a practice swing may help find the right feel.
