Why is that more pure?

Follow-up question: How do you feel about pitches and chips while on the putting surface, which is also legal? Not that I would recommend that, lol, and you might get a little pushback from the local greenskeeper! But legal by the rules, none the less.

How about putting through the fringe with a hybrid?

Putting with a bellied wedge?

Pure in the sense that putting IS standardized. Its like anchoring a putter with different parts of the body other than the arms or hands. Why does the USGA thinks that anchoring with the body is an advantage. What about the Sam Snead's banned putting style?. If one day someone uses another club other than the putter and he performed head and shoulders over the others, don't you think the USGA will not find an excuse to ban the said club from putting?

I don't think it's as simple as that

been trying a "stroking  motion " with a hybrid and 6 iron off the green and it can work

Absolutely. I find that in most situations I personally end up using a 7 iron for the majority of my chip shots, but I have also been known to use any iron 3 - SW for chip shots. Many times the selection of which club I use for a chip shot depends on slope of the green and distance to the pin.
