hey im new to the forum and right now im around a 5-7 handicap. i bought a set of taylormade rac os2's 3 years ago when i was about a foot shorter than now and had a swing speed probably half of what i swing now. i narrowed it down between these choices...

taylormade rac mb tp
mizuno mp 60
titleist 735 cm
mizuno mp60/ mp 67 combo

i tried out the clubs at golfgalaxy and seemed to like the taylormades the best. i know they are classified as a blade and will be harder to hit consistently but i only mishit one shot out of about 25 with the club. my lest favorite were the titleists as they felt very hard. what are your oppinions?

I'd take the time to demo the club and test them out on the course. If you can play the MB's all power to you, I had the opportunity to take them out once and while they are the sexiest iron in golf I couldn't handle the club. I'm not quite there yet, but its all about personal preference.

that would be a good way to test them... i see u have the 735's, how do u like them? i thought they were much harder than than the mbs and the mp60s

Well, if it makes any difference, I've learned that Mizuno is forged in Japan and Titleist is forged in China.

Japan forged > China forged

Not sure about TM, prolly Germany or something. I play the 690.CBs and I like them a lot. My next set will be TM's or Mizuno's for sure. Good luck.

RAC TP or MP60 for me. Titleist irons have always felt 'strange' to me. If I recall correctly the RAC TP has a pretty big head which is probably why it seems so forgiving.... Have never liked the 'feel' of 'cut-muscle' technology so I guess it would be RAC TP for me also.

I have the 735's and they're great. But you should try the 695 MB's. They definitely have the best feel and I didn't think they were any less forgiving than the 735. Also the best looking irons I've seen.

You've obviously never seen the 670's then

TaylorMade RAC MB surely is tough to use. I tried hitting balls with it at the range and the result was disaster. Even a friend of mine who hits his MP-32 consistently good found a hard time using it.

I have MP-60, but frankly my friend's MP-32 feels better. Another set you should try is MP-67, but it's harder to use than MP-32.

Titleist is also known for its players iron. Try their MuscleBack or CavityBlade of 695.

Among all these three names, I'm more toward Mizuno.

Going from the RAC OSs to any of the "Player" irons is going to take some time getting used to.

The head is so much smaller but the lack of offset, it may play on your mind until you get used to them.

I went from the RAC LTs to MP-67s, I tried everything on your list and more, as you probably did. I went with the ones that felt the best to me on good solid contact, I didn't want the most forgiving clubs as I was looking for a bit more feed back. If I mishit a shot even by a tittle I wanted to know.

I am switching to the mp-67's as well, they seem so solid and soooo much more workable than my x-20's. They definitely had the best feel in comparison of the 695mb, r7tp's, x-forged, nike blades, and mp-32's I tried.

those are the two things i hate about the os, the offset and big goofy head.

im going to look into buying half mp 60s and half mp 67 s with the pro that teaches me. (3-6 mp 60, 7-PW mp 67)

I am somewhere between a 12 and a 20 handicap, but it's not my irons that are my problem. I am in the market to buy new irons and I feel like the MP-32's extra forgiveness, relative to a full blade, would be pretty neat. Now, before you guys bash me let me say that I've not tried them yet (tonight hopefully), but I think I will like the "mental feel" of a blade (at address), as well as the feel through the swing.

My iron swing is extremely consistent and smooth. In regards to my handicap, it's more of a short game and inconsistent driving problem. As I said in another thread, my body type has changed a lot over the past 6... hell, even 2 years... and I've had to change my swing with my newfound strength and flexibility, therefore practically re-learning everything. My irons seem to always be perfected first, though, and I think it's just something you acquire over 10 years of branding the basics into your rump.

That being said, I hope the MP-32's are ok for me because I plan on getting a LOT better over the next couple of years (seeing as how in the business world everything revolves around golf), and I would like my clubs to grow with me.

Wow...if you grew a foot in a year, I'm assuming you are not someone with a pituitary gland tumor, and are a teenager. If you're already a 5 handicap and only mis-hit one in 25, you can buy any clubs you want and will play fine.

I'm from New Jersey (you say Jersey, maybe you mean in the U.K.), so if you are near me maybe I can get lessons from you. My advice is to buy either 1) the set with the lowest price, or 2) the ones which look the best to you when you sole them behind the ball.

Cleveland makes great irons. I have two sets of the TA1's. They are sweeeet! I haven't tried the new CG1 Black Pearls yet, but I here they are softer and a touch longer (probably due to the stronger lofts).

I played with the 735s most of this season and missed the straight MB thin topline club. The Titleists were a little more forgiving, but the TA1's are straighter and more fun to hit.

I demod the TM MB and didn't like them at all. But, I read that many people are crazy about them.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
