Time to bump up the time allotted to putting (and driving), eh? :)

Think that putter ascends too high on the back stroke?

The driving definitely needs work. I was thinking that the putting had a lot to do with what you showed me at Golf Evolution with my path going left. I made the adjustment to zero out my path, but if I haven't learned to adjust my alignment, everything will tend to go to the right, right? I still have distance issues, though.
Think that putter ascends too high on the back stroke?
If you think I should work on it, I will. What's the alternative, more around?

I was cleaning my desk out and found this old printout of my very first golf lesson. This was from my first year playing.

HAHA! Nice. Didn't realize you started playing in the 1950's...you look great for your age! ;-)

Haha, you know us Asians don't age ;-) It's kind of interesting to see that years later, I'm still working to get rid of the same tendencies.

Went to a new range. Looks decent, but I'm not fan of the huge stall dividers for filming purposes and the balls are a little beat up. I was going to practice putting, but the green was closed (looks like it got burnt up). It's closer to my new place than the old range, so I'll probably be here for a while. There's a 9 hole course, too, that I should probably play more at.

Videos:

Driver

6 Iron

And random short game shots because I got done with practice and still had balls left

Still have too many moving pieces in my swing. Sometimes I look at it and wonder how I manage to hit the ball well at all. It really does still look like that old picture of my swing.

I made a bunch of pictures for analysis, but I'm not going to upload them here because it'd be redundant. Really just more of the same old stuff. I'll just include the changes:

@billchao

What kind of ball flight are you getting on that driver swing?  I am working on a similar priority piece and I am getting push fades.  I am working to try and straighten it out more because it is unpredictable.

Push draws, which is a huge step in the right direction for me because my tendency is to pull the path left right before impact with the driver. The miss is a straight push or an overdraw. Oh, and I drop kicked a couple, too. I don't know if you can tell from the videos, but I'm really pushing the boundary of rightward path, as I feel it. It really feels like I can't physically swing any farther to the right. I probably messed up some other things along the way, but it was a repeatable move and the 6 iron shots jumped off the clubface. BTW, the thought that I focused on was what @iacas always says, "path is instinctual." I just pictured a rightward path like the one from the training aid they used in the 5SK videos and tried to trace it with my clubhead.

Thanks.  The path is improving for me, but controlling the face is the issue.  I was working on palmar flexion from A4 to A5, but it was inconsistent.  Now we are working on just keeping the left wrist consistent throughout.  But I can't work on it for a week being in Asia :-\ .  It is probably just as well.  I stress too much about it.

I had problems working on wrist movements, too, so I just said **** it, if the object is to swing to the right, I'll just swing to the right. I did strengthen my grip, too, because my tendency is to grip too weak. I think some combination of the two must have clicked for me, but the contact on the driver is still inconsistent. Don't know if that's something that will fix itself with more reps, but I think the next piece I want to tackle should take a lot of the excess movement out. Or maybe I should just wait for some real instruction :-D
But I can't work on it for a week being in Asia :-\ .  It is probably just as well.  I stress too much about it. Thanks.  Funny thing.  It is cooler (84) in Singapore than it is in Boston (90) today!

How far forward is the ball in your driver setup?

Looks like a ball or two in front of the left shoulder. Camera angle might be making it look slightly more forward.

@billchao swing looks good, especially that A6.8 pic from dtl.

I'm awful at golf

Yeah, elaborate on that, because… yeah. Just seems a bit weird, y'know? You shouldn't be hitting 70-yard drivers, my man.

I will when I get a bit more time later, but basically I topped everything for a while.

    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
    • Day 16: 12/26/2025 A little more mirror work today. Then out to the garage net.  The first part of my PPJ swing thought is really starting to stick. The J still takes some focus. Plus, I'm still putting a priority on getting all the way to my finish.
