Your experience with lessons.

Had my 1 st one one one lesson last night..( first in 6 years).. Went really really really well. If I had a question, she would stop immediately and answer and show visually and put me in that position. She would ask? So what does that feel like to you. Was so so refreshing..went so so well. I was happy that she approved of almost 90% of what I'm currently doing. Worked on the backswing and learned a ton and a lot of fun and laughs as well. I'm going to go back in a month..this one on one for me is the way I'm going to do it. What I did learn , what I " feel" was so much different than what she was explaining. Which according to the teacher is what she wanted to hear. Our perceptions and feels are so off What a great hour that was last night..

White Hawk CC. Have 4 courses of 9. I had to play the silver and grey....they revamped that whole place. It is extremely hard now.. 7800 yards from the back, with a 491 yard par 4 with a 255 yard carry over a swamp ( with GPS). I wanted to enjoy that course that day..played the reds and shot an 80.. Postage stamp undulated greens/ tree lined / water/ sand sand sand/ deep rough.. Shop girl says they want to get a "web.com" event there,, If u get a chance play it..

I've taken four lessons from three different instructors this year.

The first used video but was indoors which I wasn't a fan of because I wanted to see what the ball did.  Plus, I went into the store one day and ran into him and asked him a question about what we had discussed during my lesson and I felt like he was just pushing me into another lesson.  I can understand an instructor not wanting to give away information for free, but I like to build a rapport with someone and am more willing to keep working with them if I feel like they're not just after my money.

The second guy I took two lessons from, the first time he helped me with my grip, said not to use a baseball grip.  The second time I went to him I asked him to help me with my slice on my driver and he said to keep doing what I had been doing.  Felt like I paid him for nothing and, tbh, I had been slicing all season up to that point, so something had to be changed.

The third one I've taken one lesson from and focused more on my stance and grip.  He seems nice enough, but I don't really feel a connection with him.  Might be dumb, but I think I want that in an instructor.

I think once next season starts, I'm going to see about getting lessons from a friend who is a PGA instructor who uses flightscope outdoors and can record me so I can get a better idea.

Sounds like that instructor needs some marketing classes. He lost a sale because he didn't want to give you information unless you signed up for another lesson? If he was any good, he'd share some of his information for free and demonstrate both his willingness and ability to help you. That would have probably made you sign up again.

I understand why you'd like to see the ball as you practice, but you might want to check out this thread: http://thesandtrap.com/t/53895/hitting-into-a-net . You don't always need to hit balls down a range to practice. I find that some of my best practice comes not only from hitting into nets, but from practicing without a club at all.

Good luck with your Flightscope aided instruction. I'd love to give that or Trackman a shot if I get the chance. I hope you find somebody that you click with; improving is one of the most rewarding facets of golf, IMO.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.  I mean, honestly, I know I'm paying for a lesson but comfort with the coach is a big part of it, I think.

I was thinking about getting a net.  I live in NY, though, and my garage isn't big enough to be able to make full swings so I'd have to put it in my backyard.  However, in the offseason during the cold I'm not sure how much I'd use it.  At most only the weekends as it's dark by the time I get home from work during the week.  Either way, I'll check out the thread and might build one.

Yeah, the instructor is a friend of mine that I've known for over a decade and coaches college kids and golf instruction primarily for a living so I know I'm already comfortable with him and that he's not in it just for my money.
