Going from thin to chunky clubs?

I currently play with Mizuno MX 20 forged standard/reg irons and although they are in great condition I am turning 30 in a few weeks and my family have offered to buy me some new irons.

Anyway I play very well with my irons and i've always wanted the JPX 825.

Today on a round I tried the JPX 800 HD (6 iron only). I found that the club was very chunky when I put it down and quite a lot heavier. It felt quite nice but I just preferred my MX 20's. So I just have a few questions really.

Are there any newer irons that resemble the MX 20's?

Would a different shape be better to match ie blade?

Is it just because they are new and need to adapt?

Are chunkier clubs more forgiving and easier to use in general?

I don't want to rush buy so any help would be great thanks.

The 588 CB and CB 714 come to mind. I like both but neither suited to my game. There are some interesting new clubs hitting the market now that are a little in between. The Callaway Apex Pro looks good to me. Though if it was me I'd see if you could demo some of the chunkier clubs on the course before you make a decision on looks alone. It seems everyone wants that small, sleek club head but few have the game to justify it. Score is the only thing I care about and when I made the change to the 588 TT after playing less forgiving clubs I quickly forgot I wasn't crazy about the look.

The MP-59 irons are pretty similar to the MX-20s! I believe you will see a good difference in your game with the 59's. I tried out the 59's and 64's when I was looking for a new set and loved both of them but went with the 64's based on looks. I love my new clubs with Project X 6.0 shafts, they are SWEET! Just make sure you stay in the Mizuno family! Take a look at the Mizuno 825 Pro's or MP-54's if you want something more forgiving but less chunky from Mizuno.

I love the look of the 54's they look very similar to mx 20's but they are so much more expensive than say the JPX EZ :(

JPX EZ forged would be a great option if you like the MX 20 but want a less expensive iron than the MP-54.  Yes "cluckier" clubs are easier to hit than say a muscleback iron.

Would it make a difference between forged and cast? Cast are a LOT cheaper here in the UK lol.

Not really imo  I think the forged version has a slightly more "players" look than the cast version.

Soon as xmas is over I will most probably go for these. I was going to wait till summer to get them but what the hell you only live once...golf strong, go long lol.

Not to confuse you even more but if you wanted a good price on a set of irons and don't need to go with a forged Mizuno, the PING i20's will probably be lowering their price after Christmas, they're coming out with the i25 irons.  Very much in that forgiving players category of clubs.  Really can't go wrong either way, Mizuno makes great stuff.

Not to confuse you even more but if you wanted a good price on a set of irons and don't need to go with a forged Mizuno, the PING i20's will probably be lowering their price after Christmas, they're coming out with the i25 irons.  Very much in that forgiving players category of clubs.  Really can't go wrong either way, Mizuno makes great stuff.

For some strange reason on the golf shop site I go the i25 irons cheaper than the i20's!? Is there a reason for this?

Just realized they are the g25 not i25 doh lol. The g25's do look nice though but I want to stick with Mizuno tbh.

lol I wasn't amazed by them when I first saw them but holding them and putting them down they look quite nice. I originally wanted the 825's but the EZ are cheaper and look pretty similar just different colour.

I must say that I haven't hit the 825s but I have hit the "shovels" and I currently use JPX-800 Pro 4i and 5i and I love them... they are a little heavier but they have lighter stock shafts in them. You can also get them used for pretty cheap.

If I were you, I'd go with MP54 and keep the old MX as a backup set. I know that MP54 is much more expensive, but believe me, it is worth the money. :)

Thinking of trading in my MP 59's as we speak. But i'm thinking of going to the JPX EZ Forged or the older version JPX 825 pro's.

The casted ones are just too chunky for my likes, but i think i can use a little more help as i'm not playing as much as i would like to.

I said it before and I'll say it again: those JPX-EZ are gaudy monstrosities, and this is coming from a Mizuno iron wh*re. But if you hit them and like them than go for it :)
