4 man scrambles.....
in a recent tourney we were beat out by the ups team who posted a 54..
just wondering what kinds of low scores you have seen to win one of these things... just curious what guys out there are shooting... I don't have a team, and usally its just me and a friend who get paired up with another twosome.... we've done ok with 62, 64, 64... and I know a 59-62 seems to be the winner, but what have you seen...? thanks

Me my brother and our girls won at 59 a couple of years back, we had 4,7,8 and 15 in handicap back then. It was so awesome because the girls were hitting monster drivers(250-270 yards) from the ladies tee.

Played in one a few years back and we shot 51 (-21). Mind you I was the hacker in the group with a 3 handicap. The combined handicap of our team was 5 (our A player was a +2). Boy they got pissed at us!

Back in 2004, played in a pro-am group with Dottie Pepper and we shot a 14-under score of 58. Then in 2006, played with Angela Stanford and also shot a 14-under at the same course.

Other than that, I think the best I've done in a group not containing a professional golfer is 6-under, and that was in a scramble playing from the tips of our league course last month. Playing from the tips makes that course 7215 yards, so I thought it was a pretty good accomplishment.

My 100 handicap scramble team won with a -8 64. I think its a great score considering how high handicap we all were, all the teams were setup so that each one had a total of 100 handicap. Needless to say we won by 1 stroke :)

Wow -21.. That is a huge score even for single digits. Birdie 15 holes and eagle 3. No one had a chance...

Funny story. A buddy of mine was in a scramble a couple weeks ago and the winning team came in saying they shot a -26. Now a -21 is believable with a group of scratch golfers, but a -26 That means they had to eagle 8 holes. I guess everyone at the tourney booed them. And rightfully so.

Only scramble I've played in recently was a three-man in my high school's alumni golf outing. Was supposed to be foursomes, but we were the odd-ball group, I think. Still carded in 5 under 65 at the end of the day, but the winning group had 56. They were boo'd onto the stage (I think some pencil-whipping was involved, because it didn't look like anyone played well that day.)

We were in either second or third place, all things considered - we had a good scramble team. I could drive the ball, sometimes hit irons close, one guy was really good with irons, and the third guy could putt anyone's eyes out.

Granted, a lot of scrambles allow you to buy as many mulligans as you want for $5 or $10 each, plus you get different rules that make the scoring really low. ONe of my favorites is the power drive - where you are allowed ot tee off from the ladies tees on the hole of your choice. Makes an almost reachable par 4 an eagle opportunity.

we shot -23 under ina 4 man scramble, but there was a catch, we had 10 feet of string to extend any shot we made. without the string we shot
-17 under with no bogeys, and 1 eagle.

Most events I have played in ( business events = lot of people that don't play much ) end up having the winners -8 to -11.

Yeah, -26 is utter Bull$hit. In these pro-ams I've played in over the years, the lowest I've ever seen is -19 by the winning team. I think the year I saw that score was when Karrie Webb's group won the thing, and the guys with her were a bunch of ringers themselves. And you've got a major-winning pro in the group.

Someone said they eagled two holes, birdied fifteen of them, and parred one. Our 14-under that year still wasn't enough to place in the top 10.

whats up with the mulligan thing too..... one of the teams bought 20 of them, and they only came in with a 68....that was sad

so if you buy a mulligan ticket and you can use it as another stroke... like if everyone missed an egale putt, you could use it to stroke again... wow thats totally changes things. I found out that the ups team eagled all 3 par 5's well theres six right there.. and that would leave them 12 holes to birdie out right...

ok... I'm not the best science or math person in the world.. but if the course was par 72 and you shot a -20 thats like a 52.......

so that would have been a birdie on every hole and 2 eagles at least....???? would that be right.? and how would you explain the 50....? I'm lost on this one... ps... heres another new one for me, the tourney for this last fri/sat they took the top 4 teams and droped there names into a hat and drew the winners. the top team shot a 59 and got 4th place 200.00, they were pissssd and the 4th place had a 62 and got 800.00... we tied at 5th with 64's I had a bad wedge day, but on a highlight for me was a drive to the green on a 340yd par 4 which got a roar......it got a good bounce and rolled up there....

They probably bought a whole lot of mulligans that they used when they were putting.

That or they cheated.

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
