I'm a ~36 handicapper and have been for a couple of years. I've never broken 100 on a regulation 18 hole golf course, and it is entirely due to my long game. I can confidently say that if you only saw me playing from 100 yards in, you'd guess I was about a 15 handicap. Off the tee you wouldn't believe I'm ONLY a 36 handicap.

I've had half a dozen lessons and I immediately show improvement when practice/playing afterward, but after about a week or so all of my bad habits that I've made a permanent part of my repertoire take over and all the progress I've made is gone. I feel like I need someone standing next to me every second that I practice to tell me NO IDIOT NOT LIKE THAT until I do it right enough times to get my body to remember what needs to be done.

I saw the Medicus infomercial on TGC and it seems like it does just that, but I've had bad experiences with training clubs before (bought the Whippy and couldn't hit the ball straight with it in 2 weeks after trying 100 different things), so I am very skeptical. It's in the low-to-mid $100 range and alleges it will teach you to swing the golf club perfectly. With lessons going for $60/hr, I find this hard to believe but I am so unbelievably desperate to figure out how to put balls within a square mile of where I am aiming at this point.

Has ANYBODY out there used this training aid who thinks it would help me as a 36 handicapper? I just need to put these things in the fairway. I'd tee off with a 9-iron if I thought there was a chance I could hit this thing straight 9 out of 18 times, but there isn't. I know there's no such thing as a magic fix, but if figuring out how to swing this club without breaking it will yield me straight drives and iron shots then I'm willing to put in the work. I just don't want to waste time and money on something that will get me nowhere or make me play worse.

What's the consensus on this gadget?

I bought one on ebay and sold it on ebay within a month. It may help with tempo and take away but I did not see the usefulness for the downswing and impact. My advice would be save your money for additional lessons. I hit the ball pretty well and very straight but I am a sucker for anything that promises increased distance and a chump putting aids. I know you pain.

I was thinking of purchasing one of these to help me with my severe driving problems. I believe I am on an Inside to Outside plane, so I need that fixed.

Would the Medicus help this too? Sorry for the thread hijack.

I'm a beginner also looking for a swing training aid. I've started golf about 3 months ago and am hitting around 100-110 a round right now. My shorter irons are hitting fairly decent, but can't hit anything longer than 8 or 7. Thus, my search for a training aid before I resort to finding a teaching pro.

Recently I've come across the Medicus on TGC infomercial, just like yourself, and have been seriously considering purchasing one. However, I also came across a similar product called the "Refiner" which does the exact same thing as the Medicus but at a much cheaper price. I have made the purchase throught their website and can't wait for it to arrive! I'll post again after I try it out!

In my experience with training aids some of the best come from a company called Rover Golf. The Pure Swing is terrific to help with both Flipping AND over the top. The Power Angle Pro is pretty good for lag and for overall power. Power Release is good for stopping casting and teaching a late release.

If I could only buy one, it would be the Pure Swing.

Wonder if this thing will work using the Stack and Tilt swing.

I have been playing for only 3 years. I have the Medicus 5 iron version and it helps me with my takeaway because I can get kinda of quick with it which often leads to other problems. It is not a cure all but I suspect it would help some.

I own the Medicus and I feel that it is just "OK" but not great. I assume that you slice a lot. I would suggest the Inside Approach. You can actually build a similar device with PVC pipe and foam pipe insulation for about $6.00.

If your short game is good but your long game is
killing you, you are probably not generating enough power from
your legs and core, the primary areas to generate force during your swing

You are relying on your upper body for striking power and club head speed.

You can build it for free with a range basket and a shaft or club. Stick the club in the range basket with the grip end sticking out towards you. Now you have an "Inside Approach"

Warik, I'm a 16 handicap and the weakest part of my game is off the tee as well.
I haven't tried the Medicus but I know my biggest problem is when I try to crush the ball off the tee. A smooth, balanced swing gives me the best results.

I noticed you are playing with a stiff shaft. My first driver was stiff until I came to the conclusion that I should be playing a regular flex. Make sure that you are properly fitted...it could make a huge difference.

I have one, too. Wasted $160. All it did was teach me an abnormally slow takeaway from which I could never compensate for.

Or just put your headcover outside of and behind the ball. If you come over the top you'll hit the headcover.

The best thing about the Medicus is that it does teach good tempo. This is why people can put bad swings on it and it will not break, becuase they are using good tempo. So the caveat here is, if your swing is already good, use the Medicus to work on your tempo.
