I went into goldsmith today thinking I was going to buy the cobra amp cell driver and walked out with a black R1. I saw they had it on super sale along with the cobra and a couple of calloway's. I got lucky and they actually had most of them in lefty and luckily the only R1 happened to be my much preferred black one. After hitting them all and narrowing it down to the cobra and the R1 we got to tweaking both and after that it was no contest. The R1 was way more consistent and longer for me once the adjustments got dialed in. I never expected to like it as I never hit their clubs well but the R1 just felt like it was made for me! Looking forward to spending more time hitting it and really learning what it can do

I wouldn't mess with the settings. If you were fit properly to that driver then I'm sure you won't get it any better. My buddy messed with his and really screwed up lol. He ended up going back and dialing it in with the club pro he bought it from.

Thanks Hammer! I feel like a total tool but I'm psyched about this one. Spam, I don't plan on touching the settings as we definitely spent time tweaking things on the launch monitor till I was consistently (or at least as much as possible ) hitting the same looking shot distance and shape wise. I actually ended up lowering my loft to 9.5 from my usual 10.5 closed the face and set it up with more of a draw bias weighting wise and I was consistent 255-270 with a draw or a baby fade if I really came over the top. I just can't wait to hit it more and get more and more comfortable with the looks and feel as I'm coming from one of the square headed nike drivers from a couple of years ago.

You can fit it yourself easly! Just download the R1 app from Play Store and Apple Store (Android and IOS)

Have this driver myself, like it so much that I gave it a paint job just like it even more...

But I hope the black one you bought has better paint than the white one, the white one got scratches just by looking at it...

Good luck with the new club. I hit the R1 and the AMP Cell (along with about every other club in the store) and went with the AMP Cell. Very happy with my choice but the R1 was right up there. I'm sure I would have been happy with the R1 as well.

The Amp Cell was what I went in expecting to buy. It came in a very close second for sure. I fell in love with and bought the amp cells as my irons towards the end of last year after expecting to spend a ton more on the Pings or the new Mizuno's but I hit them way better than anything else. The other driver I really liked was the G25 but I couldn't justify the extra money especially when I was hitting the R1 better

And as a follow up I can't wait to get to the range tomorrow night and hit this thing again and just swing my clubs in general. As much as this game makes me crazy, nothing feels better than flushing it with any club

Hope you didn't pay to much for it- Golfsmith has a special right now, online only for $179...

For the black one? That is cheap! R1 is totally worth it, I do not understand why TM has moved past this driver, I think it's better than both Jetspeed and SLDR...

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
