Ping Rapture 219cc 13 Degree Fairway Wood

6 posts in this topic

This is the one that I am most interested to try in the strong fairway wood category.

"Advancing technological innovation to improve confidence, distance and accuracy, the powerful Rapture 3-wood is a versatile driver alternative. An injection-molded tungsten sole plate in the Ti 8-1-1 head accounts for nearly 25% of clubhead mass, which positions the CG much lower than a traditional fairway wood, resulting in high launch and low spin for added distance. A tall, extreme-variable-thickness face enlarges the hitting surface for increased forgiveness while accelerating ball speed to send the ball far.

The Rapture fairway wood has 13º loft, which can be adjusted +- ½ degree using PING’s Trajectory Tuning Technology. The lightweight, adjustable hosel has the same outer diameter and mass of PING's traditional fixed hosels and provides the benefits of adjustability without sacrificing the performance that's often lost in clubs with larger, bulkier hosel designs.

PING’s proprietary TFC 949 high-balance-point graphite shaft promotes an increase in momentum and inertia for improved energy transfer, resulting in faster ball speeds and greater distance."

Would you use it just off the tee or fairway too?  Titleist has one, but I've never tried it.

I would use it for both. And it is 219cc which is a bit smaller than some of the other offerings so I am thinking you might even be able to catch one out of the rough with a decent lie from time to time. It is just so freaking expensive. I will wait until I can buy one slightly used probably.

Would you replace your driver with the Rapture?

No, I would use it more to reach par fives in two and on tight driving holes. I only use three wedges, so I have room for a club like this and a driver.
