Nadda, especially when I'm going to a course that I don't know. Need some 'protection' just in case there are snakes, prickly plants rough (not that I'm ever in there), etc...

I wore regular sandals the other day... not a really good idea if you ever see the inside of a bunker.

So I'm the only one here man enough to admit to playing in Sandals? damn.
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

I won't wear sandals unless I'm going to the beach. It just seems to unmanly for me and unsafe. What if you have to run for some reason? What if you have to get into a fight? And the sight of feet is disgusting.

Running and fighting? On the course? I hope I never play in front of you.

You can probably thank Jim McMahon (Bears QB mid 1980's) for being the first to popularize wearing sandals on a golf course. He played in a few celebrity golf TV events wearing sandals and those cool shades

No sandals for me on the course. Before and after - definetely! Gotta let the feet dry out after a round!

i would definately wear the golf flip-flops (just did a quick google search, and all i could find were "bite flip flops").. the only problem i see myself having is that i broke my foot earlier this year, and i'm still having swelling across the top, so for sandals that have a non-adjustable fit, i can't really wear them... but where i live, shoes are kind of a statement.. and you choices are pretty much flipflops and boots.... oh, and new balance cross training style tennis shoes... but back on subject, yeah, i'd try them

Another knock on golf sandals here in the south...fire ants. I'm allergic to them like I am wasps and hornets.

I cringe sometimes when I see some tourists on the range or on the course in bare feet and sandals.

Ouch!

I wouldn't wear sandals but I'd consider wearing Crocs if they made a golf shoe version.

NOO SANDALS, the problem with sandals is that when most people walk in them they drag them, so if you have sandals with spikes on the course you just tear it up.

I think that these are the rules as far as GOLF (not normal) sandals are concerned

Anywhere in a private club as a member: No

Private club as a guest, nonpaying member (e.g. you're only a member because you're grandpa is a member and there is a program in place): Absolutely not

Public course: Yes, but not great

Public course twilight golfing: Perfectly fine.

I've picked them up in the store a few times... but cannot bring myself to buy them... I'm way to traditional. Maybe when I move to NC and play in 100 degree heat all summer I'll change my mind. Or maybe just go barefoot like old Sammy.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I bought my first set of golf sandals this spring and they are great. I bought the Foot Joys sandals. I am playing more golf than ever this year and I credit the sandals for helping to bring about more consistency in my game. Wearing sandals forces me to pay closer attention to my stance and alignment and it makes me slow down my swing. The result is better ball striking and fewer pulls.
For hot days they are great, my feet feel so much cooler(making my whole body feel cooler) and although bunkers can be a pain, I'm not in them as much. Yesterday I played my personal best round at Carstairs (83)wearing the sandals, two strokes better than my best round in my Ecco shoes.
Of course, as with all sandals, socks are NEVER worn.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
