So one day I will make a my swing thread but until that day I still want to work on my game so I was wondering if I could get some help. I went on a sim or launch monitor, at golf galaxy so don't know which tbh but anyway I tried a couple of drivers and my SS was between 97 and 102 but my backspin was 4100+ on every single swing. From my understanding this is what is causing me to launch so high in the air. I hit everything really really high including all my irons and woods. So what could be causing this and how can I fix it. Please give me some legitimate reasons because I am willing to try some stuff.

Sounds to me like you are hitting too down on your driver.

Dude I don't really trust all those numbers... I was shown that even when I hit up I caught the ball low and toward the heel. You gotta catch the middle of the face baby.

As far as the numbers go I know they can be off but I did go there to try the SLDR to see if those backspin numbers would come down because I have seen them 3 or 4 times now on LM or Sim. I will try to get some more contact tape and check where I am hitting on the clubface. Maybe too low? But wouldn't that be caused by hitting up too much?

Can this be cause by a steep shoulder turn? My right shoulder seems pretty low to me on the follow through so that's why I ask. I think this is a big thing I need to fix and will hit a decent amount further once I get this figured out.

Hitting up should decrease the spin rate.

What are you using to measure this 4100 rpm?

Also do you know how high the drive is actually going? Describe the shape of the shot. Does it go up gradually leveling out in a shallow way. Does it start off low and rise up very fast?

No hitting up or doesn't do anything to the spin rate it's where contact happens. I got on a Trackman and was shown all this... I hook the ball mostly and even when I hit up I was getting a lot of spin and hitting the ball low towards the heel. Spin didn't really change for me by hitting up or slightly down.. only by hitting it in the sweet spot. Maybe you're flipping at it and adding loft if your hitting it high with spin? Left wrist might be too cupped ?

Whatever Golf Galaxy has in their stores. A couple of different times. The shot gets high fast it's not really gradual. I am not sure what leveling out in a shallow way means. As far as how high it is going I am not sure. But for an instance on all my clubs last weekend I was sitting behind a thinned out tree that was probably like 20-30 feet tall an and about 30 yards in front of me. I was 220 out to a downhill green and I hit the ball over the top right of the tree with a 5 wood off the ground and ended up on the back corner of the green.

I am going to get some contact tape hopefully soon and try to see where I am hitting it this weekend. I am sure it is everywhere but where I hit it at the most and if the flight changes depending. I guess just trial and error there. I don't think I flip. I believe I have a steep swing but I am in to out by quite a bit and I don't chicken wing which will almost always happen to me with a flip.

30 to 20 feet is way too low. You need to be 80-90 feet. All clubs reach a peak height about that much. They just look different because of depth perception.

By shallow I mean that the rate of which it ascends is slow, and it reaches peak height gradually. A ballooning shot starts off low and then rises up very steeply.

I don't think that's what he was saying... he was saying he got the ball up quickly to clear the trees at 30 feet but I'm sure the shot went higher than that.

Wangnus said it perfect. I was trying to point out more of how fast it gets in the air and the shot continued to ascend. Also the tree might have been taller I am just guessing. I am still not sure how to describe the flight. I guess it's like an arch and that's with all my clubs. I get some roll with my driver but thinking I might be able to get more if it wasn't for that shape and I am thinking it's the backspin causing it. I know it's tough without seeing my swing but just wondering what some general causes might be that I can troubleshoot.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
