The newest trend I've seen of "no mow" areas.  While I agree they add a cool look to the course and they add a layer of difficulty, the only reason why they exist on most courses these days is that they save money on gas.  But just like really fast greens, they can dramatically slow down the pace of play.  It won't really affect your better players, but you higher handicaps will struggle with them and that will slow down the course for everyone behind them.

I was gong to complain about the fairway bunker in the middle of a fairway that slopes on either side. I've never seen that on any other course - even on tv. But then I remembered that golf courses are supposed to have hazards.

What really pisses me off (for real) is when they cut down trees and just leave the brush on the ground. Maybe that comes down to the not-enough-money issue. I don't know if that qualifies as "relatively common" but it doesn't seem right. Tall fescue or briars - sure, but not f%$&* limbs and brush.

Ahh yes, the dreaded "tee box is aiming me in the wrong direction." I still have trouble with that from time to time; I'll try what iacas suggested.

I'd say the most common features present on golf courses that I strongly dislike are greens. I can't putt for shit.

Give me a course with old growth timber and tight uneven fairways with uneven greens. I cannot stand ocean side courses or the wide open links style of England/Ireland.

Jerks. Can't stand jerks on the golf course.

Me to.

There's this one that seems to show up every time I play. I usually see him in the bathroom right before I tee off. He's a Canadiens fan and one of the worst hacks I've ever seen.

I wasn't aware that we play the same course...

Aw heck, I didn't even notice you were from Montreal. So, no, we don't play the same course, but I think you know where I was going with that.

Random bumps, moguls, and such in the middle of fairways that can turn otherwise well played shots into poor results.

Yeah I've never liked this either.  The worst I've seen was a few holes on a Pete Dye course where basically there were 2-3 very small flat "islands" in the fairway, and if you hit pretty much anywhere else in the fairway you ended up with a mediocre or worse result.

I just don't like hazards that are unseen from the teebox but come into play with an otherwise good shot.  I don't want to hit it 250 yds in the middle of the fairway and be in a freakin bunker or water.  That's just silly to me.

Make it tough.  Put a lake down one side, but don't put stuff in the middle of the fairway.

Arcadia Bluffs in Michigan has some gigantic kettle bunkers that protect greens and sit in the center of the fairway around 240-250 out. I was only annoyed when I ended up in one and had to play sideways and left-handed with a righty club because I was up against a 5 foot wall lol

    • No rain while I was out (9am to 11:30am). Fairly pleasant for a late November day in the Mitten.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-25 Did the BAD Challenge and hit a bunch more other little shots. This was one of the closer shots.
    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
