Just watched the final 4 holes on PVR (I turned it off earlier for BBQ with wife and kids, PVRs are awesome!) and I'm super stoked about Rory. He is hitting that driver like it's a Titleist!! If he brings that game to the table next week, LOOK OUT!

It's still hard to absorb that the kid's got three legs of a career Grand Slam at 25 years of age. What the hell??

Yours in earnest, Jason.

This may have been mentioned, and I know that Jim Nantz pointed it out at least once today, but I've found it fascinating each time they've shown the overhead, that basically every hole on the course (save for 2, he said) runs the same direction.  Maybe it's not, but that seems pretty unusual to me.  Of course you have your links courses that run straight out and then straight back, but this isn't a links course; just a boatload of parallel holes. ;)

Huh? :hmm:

I don't think that's right. You would have ridiculous walks between tees no?

I found this online, is it incorrect?

It's a zig-zag! The first green is next to the second tee and the second tee is next to the third tee and so on.

Yeah, that's right. All holes in that picture except 5 and 6 run north-south.

Oh, maybe this is just a semantics thing. With the exception of 5 and 6 roughly half the holes run north-south and the other half run south-north. For some reason I thought you were saying all the holes ran in the SAME direction, i.e. north-south, which was why I was so confused, because that would be...dumb.

Same here. I pictured them all lined up in a straight line and couldn't imagine how that would work. :-P

Maybe if you're around the north pole and the 18th green just reaches the 1st tee.

It all depends on his desire. Tiger had a goal, 18 majors, and he was relentless in pursuing it for many years. He's still relentless but his body is not cooperating. I like how Rory goes about it, he doesn't have a goal in mind. He's at 3 now and wants to get to 4, when he gets there, he'll want to get to 5. That's a good way to look at it but I wonder if at some point he becomes satisfied, like with 8, and decides to start taking it easy, focusing on the family, etc. I hope he can keep his passion for the next 15 years. If so, I think he can reach double digits, for sure. He sure is fun to watch, but I don't think we'll see another Tiger for some time yet.

Rory and Tiger are both very successful golfers but outwardly they are very different.  Tiger comes across as a strong Type A personality, where are Rory is more Type B externally.  Tiger always seem intense where as Rory usually seems relaxed.

I really enjoyed watching Rory play yesterday as he seemed so in control of his emotions and his swing.  He appears to play effortlessly and while he may react to a bad break, it's never in the angry, violent manner Tiger or Bubba does.  It will be interesting to see if he has the internal intensity to drive himself to chase Tiger and Jack's major record or if it even means that much to him.

Did he have that goal as he started out, or after winning multiple majors and realizing he could actually do it? Rory has won a few, got many years left. Maybe he's got a goal to beat Tiger, or Jack, or maybe he will at some point.

In interviews I've heard him characterize it this way. I'd guess when he started he probably had a goal to win "multiple" majors. As he gets closer to double digits (if he does), I could see his goals start to change a bit towards chasing others but for now, he's content to just "get the next one," which I think is a healthy way to move ahead.

I was talking about Tiger. When did he start thinking about chasing down Jack?

Also, Rory can have goals without telling everyone.

Probably right after kindergarten.

Probably right after kindergarten.

Yes, close. It's well documented that Tiger had that record in sight from his teens.

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
