I am one of those guys that uses 2-pw, wedges, putter, and a driver. I have room for one more club, but don't know which way to go. Hybrid? Third Wedge, 3-wood? Any advice?

Keep track during a game or three which clubs you use and why. Do you need another long range club, or does driver-iron put you into a good shot for your third on a par-5? Can you reach all of the par-3s at your courses with the clubs you have?

If your clubs aren't inhibiting your long game, I see no reason to add a 3-Wood or hybrid, unless your 2-Iron is causing problems, but then I'd suggest replacing it with a hybrid. If you hit it fine, keep it. How well do you hit your wedges, and what's the spacing in the lofts between PW, GW, and SW for you? Maybe an LW would be good if you find yourself hitting partial SWs. Maybe a 4-Wood, if you decide to go with the long clubs. I don't know why the 4-Wood is on my mind. If you go with a long club, try out a 3- and 4-Wood, and 1- and 2-Hybrid to see which you like the best. Maybe another driver? One for long shots one for accurate-but-still-driver-and-driver-forgiveness shots. I've contemplated adding a 12-degree driver to my bag (to replace what, I don't know). I saw one guy a few weeks ago carrying two putters -- one for long putts and one for short putts. I don't like this idea, because it means getting used to two different putters and some delay in switching them (at least he didn't switch when his long shot gave a tap-in next). Consider also: keep yourself at 13 clubs. If you're playing in the 80s with 13 clubs, there's no reason another club means another scoring opportunity unless something - some distance, some utility - is missing.

if i were you i would get a 3 wood. 2-iron to driver is a big gap considering how far a wood goes compared to an iron, and there is also a loft difference between 3 wood and 2 iron.

It's a big gap

in distance , but I don't think that means he needs a 3-Wood. A 3-Wood is a dangerous temptation. If I were able to hit mine consistently off the fairway, I'd be tempted to go for some par-5s in two, drive dependent (naturally). My inability to hit it off the deck forces me to lay up (and saves some strokes in the process). So, I guess I do need more information. Is your 2-Iron a hybrid or 'real' 2-Iron? If you can hit it well consistently, have you gone back to the manufacturer to check into a 1-iron? It doubles as a safety device

    • Hmm... didn't know that. Good to know.
    • Yes, please, because if you said it was 20" but should be 10", that's a 10" error, but if it was 2" and 1", that's a one-inch error. Which is why… there is a different process for shorter putts (inside of about 6-8'). You don't really use your fingers anymore there. I misspoke when I said that you use the low edge of the hole. That's the old way. In reality, you don't use your fingers at all inside of whatever your crossover point is. That's not what he was doing there, no. He was just trying to see the slopes and tilts, not actually measuring distances and holding up fingers. His fingers were on the green. :D
    • This is the concept I wanted to be noticed. I can recheck the numbers to make them more accurate.  The closer you get to the hole, the more the height of the player affect the reading of the putt and the system starts to diverge from reality. Aiming to the low part of the hole in short putts is a way to patch the method so that it gets closer to reality. Only using it at ball heigth, as camilo villegas used to read lines, is going to give you the exact distance away from the hole to aim at.
    • I stepped off 10' from a wall electrical outlet this morning when I read it and held up two AimPoint fingers at about stimp 10… and got a little over 8" (because I was 10' and not 9').
