New Driver.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting a new driver. I just started playing last year. My price range is around $200. Some ones I am looking at are nike covert VRS 2.0, Cobra bio cell, taylormade rbz stage 2, taylormade jetspeed. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was recently in washington on business and used a RBZ that was with the rental clubs. When I hit it good I absolutely crushed it, I got on the green in one on 315 yard par 4. The driver is long thats about all I can say, mishits went in the woods never to be seen again.

It all depends on your swing and what you like the look of.

There is no such thing as a "long" driver and there is no such thing as an "accurate" driver.

You're going to have to test them all at a store and find out what works best. For me the i25 and 913 D2 work best, and the SLDR is absolutely terrible for me . I can't find the sweet spot on it to save my life. Others can hit the SLDR a mile and don't like the i25 or Titleist drivers. A lot of it is just personal preference, so swing away and see what works best.

You've got to hit them.

If you have a PGA Tour Superstore in the area, hop on a simulator, if possible.

Club fitting is weird. Differences in head shapes, shaft, length, etc. do have an effect. Try them.

Exactly. Find one you like the looks of and get it spec'd up to make it "feel" how you want it.

You have to hit them before you buy one. Its not a good idea to read a review or two online or watch some PGA ore talk about it and hit and then go and buy it. Either go to a demo day where you can hit them, or go to a golf shop with a simulator and launch monitor. Certain people have a hard time hitting certain drivers based on their swing. You might buy one and hate it and now have to live with a $200 club you wont touch.

I agree they all are about the same length if fitted properly.

But they can me more "accurate" meaning more forgiving.

Playing from a 2.3 you may not have visited the entire club face lately.  But from someone who has, trust me they are not all the same.

For me I like the Ping G25 I believe it is one of the most forgiving out there.

The smartest way to buy a driver is to buy from a store that has the "pro-style" launch monitors so you can see the data.  If you test 3-4 drivers, one will usually present itself as the  best fit based on the data.

Or you can do like me and be stupid....and order one sight unseen like I did on the internet last night...sheesh!  ...and I wasn't even drunk!   This is the first driver I bought in many years without testing first.

I would look for an outdoor GRASS range that carries demo models. If you find one you love they just might offer you a great price on a lightly used demo driver. Some places will let you take the demo out to another course to try out. I bought my last 2 that way and now I'm contemplating the new Callaway X Hot 2.

Personally, I think the Nike Covert (cavity) drive is NOT GOOD LOOKING.

I guess I'm just old-school.
