Hey guys,

I've been playing Srixon Z-Star XV's now for about two years and I love the way they play. However I'm not able to get deals on them anymore and I'm looking for a ball that will have similar performance with more of a medium price range.

I'm looking for a medium price ball that will respond well to higher swing speeds and have lower spin off the tee ( My drives average 275+ yards, 7-iron distance is 175-180). Preferably it wouldn't sacrifice too much feel and spin around the greens, although I know there will be a bit of a change from the top of the line balls.

I've been thinking about trying Titleist Velocity, and the Bridgestone e-series. Don't know much about other medium price range balls.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately I live in Canada so there is expensive shipping from Golfball.com. Good deal though. Also I'm not really interested in used balls

Why change?

I understand a desire/need to keep an eye on your golf budget, but you're a pretty good player, so you don't lose a lot of balls.  At best, if you find a ball that's $12 a box cheaper than what you're playing now, you save a buck a ball.  That probably translates to about a buck per round of golf over the long haul.  Given that you really love the Z-Star, is it really worth a dollar per round to give that up?

Keep on the lookout for "past generation" or logo over-run balls at your local golf stores, or on-line too.....neither of those will affect your playability in the slightest.  But my recommendation is that you play the ball that you like and in which you have confidence.  Find the buck somewhere else.....

I live in Canada too so I hear ya about the shipping rapes of the US based companies. :censored: You'd think they'd want our business but apparently not.

I buy all my golf balls in mint quality at Knetgolf.com , Canadian based company. I usually buy 5dz at a time and shipping is $9.99 on the 5dz. Once you're in their database they send you discount codes (usually 15% but occasionally 25%) by email every 6 weeks or so. Everytime I get one of those emails I check my supply and if I'm getting low I order another 5dz. Sometimes the discount will be for 15% on all Titleist balls, but when you read the fine print you'll see that the discount is applicable to any brand.

Always buy mint or one step lower (I think that's AAAAA with knetgolf) and NEVER buy refinished or refurbished.

Never had an issue and always have a huge supply of my preferred ball.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

The rates are "rapes" both ways.  I don't get it.  Montreal is much closer to Boston than Hawaii, but shipping to Maui is cheaper!

I hear ya. So I just ship to a place in the states that is close and whenever we go down for some golf or shopping I pick them up. Do the same with clubs

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
