Three weeks ago I had thirteen rounds at 78 or lower. Fast forward to today and I haven't broken 80 in my last five rounds. I was a 4.5 but now a 6.0. Why does the game I love so much turn on me so fast!!! The only good thing about it is the member member is coming up in October so maybe I bottom out an rise up again from the ashes!!  Is it just me or does our passion sometimes turn to puke.

Do you keep track of stats? It is hard to say what is wrong with out knowing how to assess your own golf game. Sometimes it might be something simple to fix. It might be something else, like a swing fault that might cause you to miss a few more greens in regulation per round.

I would buy a copy of this book, http://lowestscorewins.com/

Besides having a lot of advice and drills for different aspects of your game. As well as how to manage your golf game on the course. It has a section that will teach you how to assess your own golf game, and how to prioritize what needs to be worked on the most. Basically not all golf skills are equally as important as others.

If you want to read some reviews by some other members on the forum,

With out knowing what skills you might be lacking or maybe one needs polishing, it is hard to say why you are not breaking 80 anymore.

At a 4.5 - You're good enough to know what you're doing right and wrong, but tracking your GIR's, Fairway's and putts helps.  Simple tip is to put a dot in the top left corner of your score on the scorecard for a fairway hit, a dot in the top right for a GIR and a small number in the bottom right for how many putts...  You can have your own method, that's just what I got used to a while back.

I'm very inconsistent...  went from 70's to shooting a few high 80's rounds -  I vary my playing style way to much.  There are days when I play conservative and days when I play really really aggressive.  It makes me have some really good days and some not so good days lol...    I like to have fun on the course, so I try way to many types of shots, yea that one through the trees that you have to cut 20 yards over water from 185....  Yea I'm likely to give it a shot lol...  I might shoot 87 but that birdie was worth it!!!!  lol....

Good luck man, seriously I feel your pain...  When I'm trying to shoot low numbers sometimes I don't know how I can go shoot 75 and the next day throw an 87.... WTF???

If you track stats it'll obviously be easier to see what is going on and where those extra few strokes are coming from. That being said, sometimes that's how golf is. I know that I go on runs where everything seems to be going really well and the handicap keeps going down and then all of a sudden I suck again for a few rounds.

I don't keep track of stats but I did just receive lowest score wins. I've just started the book but its interesting to look at the value of certain shots. I hope to finish the book this week. Seems to have some great insight. Thanks for the imput.

I went from 4.6 at the end of last year up to 7.0 recently.  Then turned it around in a matter of weeks just recently.  No telling if/when the tides will turn again.  It's a brutally frustrating game, and those of us who live around that 5 hcp range are awfully sensitive to a point swing either way.  2 strokes is the difference between acceptable and horrible.

Hang in there.  It'll turn.

Never thought about it but it does seem like Jack the cat had a premonition!!!

    • Day 328: night range session. Worked on wrist twist in the downswing. Focused on doing it as well as I could slowly. I hit a lot of pull hooks and some solid straight balls, so that’s good. Video feedback seemed good, but quality wasn’t great because it was bad lighting. Really pleased with how I focused on being slow and specific, using some of the tips from the last Spin Axis pod.
    • Day 44 (13 Jun 25) - Friday men’s shootout…played so-so.  A couple of lost ball penalties on the front for a pair of dbl bogies (the only of the day) kept the score up - however had some neat recovery shots especially on the back nine to save par on a couple and bogie on another.  All in all - a good day to make the most of course management…and minimize miscues.
    • Ok…ok. We’ve got some names creeping in there…Ready for some chaos….nice to see Spaun…Hovland a good kid….still waiting for Brooks to crash miserably.
    • The first bit of 6.3 says teeing area rules apply when: The player is starting play of the hole (see Rule 6.1), The player will play again from the teeing area under a Rule (see Rule 14.6), or The player’s ball is in play in the teeing area after a stroke or after the player has taken relief. So yes, if you take Unplayable Relief in the Teeing Area, you can then move it or tee it up.  Note that for Back on the Line penalty relief, for Unplayable or Penalty Area, the relief area may be any area of the course.  For free relief, you must usually end up in the same area of the course as your ball was previously, That means you can't take relief from a sprinkler head for a ball in the General Area and drop in the Teeing Area.
