What makes for a good day of golf for you?

For me it could be any of the following ...

1. Not losing any balls in the water, rough or woods

2. Not having to 3 putt any holes

3. Hitting the fairway on the drive every time

4. Not under or over pitching the greens

5. A good day of putting and judging speed of greens

6. Not getting double bogies

7. Having my golf partner play a good round

8. Besting my previous best score

I kind of like having a hot putter, but not having any penalty strokes is good thing too. In all honesty, I just like to golf, so what ever happens when playing is just part of having a good time.

This morning was a fun round with some folks I had never met before. Myself, and another shot 83s, while the other two shot 81, and 82 respectively. We all won a couple of skins from each other. Had a couple of parting beverages at the 19th, and went our separate ways. Just a good 4 hours spent doing something we were all evenly matched at.

Playing with people I like.

Nothing else (like how I play) matters enough to me to make or break my "day".

About the only rounds I don't enjoy anymore are when I'm either playing alone or playing with Debbie or Donnie Downer.

All of the above. I really enjoy it when the guys I'm playing with are having as much fun as I am. Nothing can suck the fun out of a day faster than someone who gets into a self-absorbed funk....

Just being on the course is a good day of golf for me, especially a cool fall morning, which I am really looking forward to. There are quite a few worse ways to spend four hours of your day. As far as a good round of golf goes, I dunno, anything in the mid-80s or better is nice. Sometimes I'll shoot a mediocre score but feel like I played much better than the score reflected. My ball striking is usually pretty good, it's the extra strokes on/around the green that kill me.

I will echo any day on the course is good. Sure I think back to specific rounds as standing above the others ( my first birdie or the time I drained a 62' putt) but beyond that just being out there makes it a good day. One of the best rounds was last year when we srarted walking 18 at dawn with a slight drizzle. The drizzle turned into a steady rain. We were the only souls on the course. None of the group shot a great score but we enjoyed the ride. It's all good.

A great day on the course begins by: 1) Picking up my buddy at his house, telling his wife I'll look after him and hearing her say "Gary you better not be out late tonight." 2) Lacing up my golf shoes looking over at Phil who is complaining that his socks don't match. 3) Asking one of our gang Greg if he packed us a little hooch to keep warm, he says yeah and pulls out a bottle of Jack Daniels (one of those mini bottles you get on a plane). I am not rich but I am certainly rich in friends!

Hanging in there and shooting a good score, plain and simple.  The details of how it happened (stats) I don't care.  Buddies there with you, great. Enemies you're schooling, even better.  Flask--what is it?

You have a much better attitude than me.  Score doesn't matter, really?

..................any day playing the game is a good day.   Score definitely has it's place, but a bad score doesn't ruin the day.

I didn't say a bad score ruins the day.  The question was, "What makes a good day?"  My most memorable good days were when I shot a great score (for me), especially in a tournament.

Perfect weather.  I'll play like 200% pure ass and not mind at all if it's sunny and about 65 outside with no wind.  Playing well on top of it is just a bonus.

Yeah.  How about perfect weather and an empty course--no one holding you up, no one pushing you from behind, and you shoot a personal best, with your best buddies.  Now we're talking.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
