Hey guys, I lurk on here a lot but rarely post. I have decided that I want to become a more active member of the community. That being said I am having some issues with my game. I have recently signed up for Evolvr and just posted my first videos for review. After watching my swing I can see that there will probably be some changes that I need to make. I want to get better and spend the time with drills to make game better but still want to get out and play. Am I better off to hack it around the course while working on whatever changes I have to go through or play with my old swing on the course and work on changes at the range. I have no issue with shooting a few rounds high 90 or low 100's if thats what it takes for me to get better. Just curious what others have done in the past.

P.S. If I HAVE to skip golf for a bit to achieve long term benefit I will but really don't want that to be my only option.

My only problem with golf is that I am usually standing too close to the ball............ after I hit it.

Lefty:  IMO you will need a combination of actual play and time on the range.  Sometimes you need to find the fix and then repeat it several times.  If you can then take that to the course and see the results it will really connect with you.

I don't think you can learn it all on the course, nor can you learn it all just smaking balls.

Hi Trevor, good to see you posting.

When you play golf, you just play golf. If you practice properly, the changes will "bleed" into you full swing. Working on mechanics doesn't mean you're going to "hack it" around the golf course. In fact the opposite will probably be true, we typically get students to see immediate improvement in their ballstriking. There is no reason to stop playing golf while you work on your swing.

Here's more on how to practice

Agree with Mac. A person doesn't have to "hack it around" while working on their swing.

My Grandpa used to tell me, "You play the round with whatever swing showed up today" If you want to change your swing mechanics, do that on the practice range, not on the 4th hole.

I generally have a specific thing I'm trying to get better. Maybe it's your takeaway. Maybe it's inside - out. Maybe it's lower body work (that's me). Take the round of golf as additional practice away from the range. I recommend not playing for money etc. That's the quickest way to revert to your old swing. If no one is pushing you, throw down an extra ball.

Play as much as you want to play. Practice as much as you want to practice (and then some).
