I actually had this happen to me with my wedges the second day of tryouts this year. It was incredibly embarrassing, after shooting 73 (+3) the first day, and I ended up shooting 50 for the nine we played that day. I had one hole where I shanked three in a row OB from only 80 yards out. I needed to slow my swing way down to eventually solve the issue and just focus on center face contact.

Sorted!!! Hit some great shots today only a couple of shanks,I wasn't letting my arms drop through could see it on video and swaying forward on down swing hence the shank stayed much more central and pivoted around my spine sweet shots rewarded

I used to shank pitches and chips on a regular basis - I fixed the problem by setting up as usual, and then walking about an inch closer to the ball - just that little bit helps dramatically.    maybe it will help you on full shots

Yes even though it can feel like the hands are too far in front of the ball when you shank, the opposite is generally true.

I am biased to the product of course, but this may help www.BanditGrip.com

Good Luck!

Is this product USGA compliant, and can be used for tournaments and such?

It does look interesting. What's funny is that I'm an archer and it looks pretty much like a finger tab.

The product cannot be used in USGA tournament play, but can be used if a player were to have medical grip issues. Arthritis, nerve damage, etc- http://www.usga.org/rule-books/rules-of-golf/rule-14/

It can be also be used as a training device or if you wanted to beat your buddy out of a beer or win a golf scramble...

This is more in line with what I was asking. I just recently gave 6 strokes to one of my playing partners, and really don't want more taken away due to use of "non-conforming equipment".

Of course, I currently have a partially fractured metacarpal in my lead hand index finger. . .Hmmm. . .How long can I milk this one?

EDIT: Could you change the name of your grip to "handkerchief"? Rule 14-3-c-iii. Towel is also okay?

Get impact tape and find out where you are making contact on the clubface.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
