yeah, isnt it funny how we cant wrap our heads around something sometimes?  and then when you finally get it, its all like

for me, the easiest and most concise way to think it through is "the ball starts approx where the face is pointing, and then curves away from the path".  easy peasy.

Agreed. That simply phrase has made everything so much easier to understand. Just another great example of how good this site is at removing the mysteries.

im sorry but this really doesnt seem to make any sense?

Smells a bit like a feel thing for the most part, however "releasing away from your body" sounds like holding off the rate of closure which would likely result in a face that tends to be a tad open through impact which is heading right all day long if it's not left of the path. Personally I gave up any ideas of controlling my release and am just trying to get my grip to be consistent and to try to keep my path a little closer to neutral (but still in-to-out) to avoid any wild dispersions. I still hit more blocks and hooks than I'd like but focusing on grip and path seems to be the most efficient way to work on this.

YMMV.

Yep. Same here. When I am striking the ball well I am feeling a turn. If I have to feel my rate of closure speed up or slow down, it is because something went wrong in the swing.

Makes sense to me but maybe it is just something I'm feeling and not something you can see. Either way the end result is keeping your hands close to your body and shutting the face down instead of leaving it open and hitting a block.

yeah, must be a feel thing.  for me, saying "keep the hands close to the body" would mean sending the path left too soon, and then slamming the face down + a left path would be a pull, pull hook, or a pull slice.

Played through 16 holes yesterday with the thought if sticking with the swing changes no matter what and was only 6+, got to the last two holes and dropped a further 10 shots lol love this game!!! Techrx - i get what u mean!! My pre-swing is to fire hips forward, keeps arms and hands close, on the final route into impact making a definate feel for "square face impact" like hammering a nail (theres a drill for that isnt there?) and i tell you what i nailed some of the nicest iron tee shots ive ever hit!!! 6 iron to centre green on a par 3 that was 181yards? I dont do that often!!! Colin - agree it felt like that to me but if you get the correct hip bump and turn the the hands being close dont go left, more straight or in-to-out......keeping the hands further away causes them to come further left ironically My game is definately coming back to me, i just struggle with seinging to hard at the minute, lose all my sequencing

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
