I'm going to start using my local driving range and was worried about using my driver because of the big rubber tees. Will the rubber tee damage my driver on miss hits because it has no give like a normal tee you put in the ground?

If you are referring to the rubber tees that pop up through the mats then don't worry. They are designed to bend out of the way. Also, they won't leave any marks on the clubs either.

If at the end of the session there are no green marks on the bottom of your driver, and no white marks on the top, then you have had a very successful event.  The rubber tees are nothing to worry about.

And usually such tees come in various lengths so find the one best for you. I do not like the very tall ones, as my driver is 12*.

Yeah, I find the 3" to tall, so I use the 2 3/4" tee, also have a 1 1/2" to use to simulate hitting 3 wood off the tee. Rubber tee's are harmless. :-D

Cheers for the input guys can you buy them yourself?

Yep. I've seen them at Golfsmith. I do NOT recommend hitting your irons off the mats if you tend to have a steeper swing that normally takes a big divot. You will damage your elbows. I know.

There is a driving range down the street from me that has those "power tees" that tee the ball up for you, it has 4 different height settings, pretty cool.

Yeah and your clubs as well! thanks for the advice. I use a local park to practice iron play because I like to practice with conditions as close to a real course as I can. With a driver it's not possible simply because there is enough space to let my drives go. Will only taking the driver to the range and was looking for a bag/case that fitted just my driver in to save taking all my clubs but no luck so far.

I don't care for the automatic tee's...As for buying the rubber ones, they usually come in a 3 pack with different sizes, and you can buy them individually too.

Why don't you like the automatic tee?

Why don't you like the automatic tee?

The range that my Son and I go to, that has those. Has a funky looking plastic box right by the tee, where you select the tee size. It just distracts me for some dumb reason, because it's my line of sight through out the swing. My Son also likes em..

Yeah I totally get that I'd probably subconsciously slice my drives to the right taking to much care not to hit the box. I see players on tour placing their ball just inside the tee box marker ( if that's what they are called ) and standing outside to swing thinking how does that not affect them.

The box is nowhere near where the path of any club could hit, unless you were aiming for it..lol

You can damage your elbows and if you use forged irons possibly change the loft and lie of the irons.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
