A friend of mine who is a personal trainer to several semi-pro and pro golfers gave me a shag

bag that one of them was discarding when he left for Japan. It contains several lightly used

balls.

I normally use Titleist DT Solo.

In the bag are :

Titleist Pro V1X

Callaway Chrome + and Diabalo

Last time I was on a launch monitor my swing speed was in the high 70s.

Try them out on par 3s and see if you like / benefit from the spin around the greens. Otherwise shelve them until you feel like your game can benefit from them. But I love those soft cover balls for second shot onwards. I just do my best to not lose them on tee shots since they may spin a bit more / you care if you lose one in the woods. Last thing: the Diablo, if memory serves, is the "one of these thing is not like the others". It's a distance ball akin to the Titleists NXT, I think. The Diablo Tour was a pretty good ball though. It'd be the one I think you'd find most similar to the Solo.

As a 28 hcp, you should use the cheapest balls you can find. Free is good!

lol, that sounds like me.

I don't buy balls, I find more than I lose and play those.  I probably have a 100 ball surplus, running out of Bridgestone E-6's though.  Maybe I'll start working through the Titleist's next.

Play whatever you want. Who cares but you? I play Prov1x because they're the best ball on earth. Period. To each his own. You'll get cornballs defending Walmart brand like its their religion here. There's a strange obsession with goofy curmudgeons hating on Prov1 and Scotty Cameron here, it's actually comical. Who cares? If your handicap is 28, I suggest just playing what you like, the quality of the ball is inconsequential to your skill at this point to be honest. Just have fun and play what you like.

As you play more, you'll know when you should play better balls. Until then, round is good. When you get better, you'll need a good ball to hit and stick to greens. It will also become apparent that you need to play the same type of ball so you'll know how it reacts for your shots.

Well I used the Titleist ProV1x on the par 3s. It did not make a difference. I parred one, bogeyed two, and double bogied the other. But I

had fun. See detail on my swing thread.

It's not the ball in this stage of my improvement just like some of you said.

Like you, Solos are my bread and butter ball. I like ProV's ok and would play them if they were free. I don't think they would help or hurt your game.  I think the Diablo might have a harder feel than the Solo.

The good thing about ProV's is when you get good enough that you know the difference, you don't lose as many, LOL!

If someone gave me a bag of lighly used ProV's, I would play them.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
