Yes, this makes total sense. After 3 plus years, I think I've finally found a swing that suits me. It's a matter of getting used to the body positions which are completely foreign to me (and that is how you will feel as well when you commit to a complete change like that).

You have to play around a bit, but I highly advise doing that experimentation under the guidance of an expert like those instructors at Evolvr, etc.

In my interaction with @mvmac he doesn't know which muscles I am firing on a downswing, but he can see if I am doing something that could potentially injure myself. It's kind of up to you to own your swing, and it's up to them to give you some guidance.

This takes some time. There is no quick fix to anything at all. Things that look relatively minor from the outside might feel night and day different to you and that takes a lot of adjusting on your part.

Thanks, it's reassuring to know that other people have had the same difficulties that I'm having with wholesale changes to a golf swing.  I have had hours and hours of lessons but not one of my local coaches has got me to slow down my swing, which is why after 6 months I don't see any real improvement and hence my frustration.  Hopefully evolvr can change all that.

Cheers, Matt

I've just watched my second evolvr swing analysis by Stephan. I was a little apprehensive watching it since my efforts to maintain the flexion during the backswing were bloody awful! I've got a few tweaks to make on my set-up which should be straightforward....I hope. The focus then is to control the backswing. If I could sum-up my 6 month golf journey so far and give advice to my fellow hackers, it would be; Be patient and don't expect change to happen overnight......as all the great guys on here have reminded me several times! I was going to say take lessons but unless you can find or know what a good coach is, be careful. Read the forums on here and get involved. There is a wealth of knowledge and expertise as well as some light hearted fun. But don't search for that miracle cure, there is no such thing! Too much information can be a bad thing, especially for anyone analytical like me. I try to read and process too much at once. Cherry pick the bits to work on and don't move on until you are doing them in your sleep! Use a mirror and or camera for feedback. Don't try and hit the ball miles. My best strikes come from a controlled swing. Join evolvr - these guys know their stuff. I've only had 2 online lessons but they have already changed my understanding of where I need to improve and how to implement it. Enjoy the challenge.......golf is a game of such fine margins that it can reward you one minute and destroy you the next! Time for my "change da picture" week at the range.......I will keep you posted!

Hi @LTHardy another yellow belly......small world! The videos are at Welton range but I do occasionally treat myself to a trip to Thorpe as their range balls are better quality. Where do you practice?

Yes another Yellow belly indeed! ahhh i see, didn't realise they had a range up there, ive heard the course is nice though? I always stick to Thorpe as like you said the balls are decent and with the range card you can get it its only £4 for 90. Will be going tonight before a round at Laughterton tomorrow.

Did anyone start out with the same problems I have with my swing so that I can study your "my swing" journey? My faults are numerous but priority areas at the moment are torso lifting, overswinging and over the top. I'm finding that slowing my swing down is helping to ingrain the changes. I will post my next evolvr video tomorrow. Thanks

Start out? How about continuing to work through it? I've been working on resolving these issues for a little over a year now, but I think I'm getting close.. I'm practicing better than I ever have at home, but wish I had more time on the range. I think it's important for you to just not care what you score anymore, and just convince your self that it will take two years to get to a a swing that produces a push draw, this way it will be a pleasant surprise if and when you donut sooner, and you won't ever think of going through your priorities quickly because you aren't really on the clock to get there quickly. Good luck!

Yeah, I have not played a round for ages, I was getting down on myself when my shots were going all over the place so I've kept away! I'm thinking of trying a local par 3 course though to get away from the monotony of the range. I've not set a time limit on anything other than making sure I practice most days, either on the range or in the back garden. The improvement people have made in the my swing threads is amazing and it spurs me on to keep working at it. Good luck to you too!

Hi folks, latest video of my evolvr work.  My areas to work on have been to increase the shaft lean at address, feet and knees flared and to swing in a centred pivot whilst maintaining flexion.

The swing feels powerless compared to before as my instructor Stephan said it would...........why is that?

I'm starting to see some improvement which is good but there is a long way to go!

Apologies for the first video........the sun glare was a nightmare!

Better but more please, keep working on it. Also, it would really help if you made some slow rehearsal swings before each shot. Rehearse the "flexion" backswing, don't slide those hips back.

Mostly because the arm swing will be shorter.

Thanks @mvmac , the slow swing is something that I don't do enough.......probably due to my lack of patience!  As well as changing my swing philosophy I need to change my mind-set.  The difference in coil and centred pivot between those 2 pictures is a real eye opener and it's a good example for me to try and replicate. Trying to practice the slower backswing and improved flexion............I have noticed that my shoulder turn seems excessive, what can I do to reduce that - should I try to extend the arms more during the takeaway? And do you think my right leg straightens too early and/or too much.  Thanks for your help. Matt

Yes looks better, can do it even more, keep at it.

Should I try to extend the arms more during the takeaway?

Looks fine to me.

Thanks @mvmac, really encouraging when you and others confirm things I'm working on are correct. I appreciate the time and effort you guys give and I will be signing up as a supporter at the end of the week......this site is awesome! After 2 months of range work I'm going for a round on Friday. Although my swing is miles from where I want it to be, I need to get out on the course and learn the real game.......I reckon the groundskeepers will need to follow me with a turf truck! I will update with my score after the round. I reckon it will be 120+ Goal for 2 years from now......break 100!

Hi there, A great fix for the "over the top" move or "casting" is to put a headcover under your right armpit and hit little shots without it falling out. Start with little shots and really feel the club working under. If you do this right the ball should start online or even to the right. Always practice with alignment aids! Poor setup may be part of the problem, hope this helps! P.s. Reverse pivot is usually a big contributor to over the top, practice loading your weight on to your Back foot and feel almost as if you are hanging back this will really help with driver and woods. Good luck!

Thanks @hoopsizzle, it's something I can certainly incorporate into my evolvr work. I see that you are wanting to be a Golf coach, hope it goes well and welcome to TST!

    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
