Hey All,

My wife planned a summer getaway down to Ocean City Maryland with some of her friends and their husbands. I was curious if anyone could tell me what courses I should look at playing. Here's what I'm looking for:

I'm a total hacker who likes playing courses around 6,000 yds. I also would like to keep green fees reasonable, preferably under 50 bucks (walking) if possible.

None of the husbands really golf, although I brought one of them to the pitch and putt last summer and he seemed to like it and has potential to be a regular. I'll prob play 18 by myself one morning but would also like to know of any good pitch and putts/par 3 courses in the area so I can invite the others guys along while still being able to work on my game somewhat.

Thanks in Advance!

There is a decent little 18-hole par-3 course called Assateague Greens that might be good for you and your buddies. There are also a variety of regulation courses for you to check out. Rates will depend on when you plan on playing (morning vs. afternoon, weekend vs. weekday, etc...)

Check out most of the public courses here: http://ococean.com/golf

I haven't played them all (not even close), but I really like Rum Pointe!

A must play in OC is Eagles landing its allways in great shape and has some really neat holes. more then 50. but well worth it.

I'll second the motion on playing Eagles Landing, fantastic golf course.  Have also played Bear Trap Dunes in Bethany Beach, very nice.

+1 for Eagles Landing, played there last summer, great course and the staff was fantastic. Would play there again in a heart beat. Only downside, no driving range.

So I only ended up playing Assateague Greens by myself this morning. None of the other guys wanted to play and wifey wouldn't be happy at me playing 18 by myself while she watched the little guy. Greens could have been in a little better condition, but I liked the course overall. I carded a 40 which is actually exactly playing to my handicap (+13) but I felt like I played terrible. 4 pars, 1 bogey and 4 TRIPLES!!! 3 of those holes include penalty strokes. On the flip side, I didn't warm up AT ALL and was just glad to get out. I hit a lot of good shots and just enough bad shots to keep me on my toes next time I go out (which hopefully will be Thursday)

Played a tournament at Baywood Greens a long time ago and it was really nice. Only the twilight rate is under $50 though.

I agree. This is where I went with a friend who was going to shoot well into the 120+ range. Enjoyable for both of us.

    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
