I'm not brand loyal, I buy whatever works best for me, and I have owned a number of different brands. I currently have Titliest CM 735's which are a forged combo set. I have my Son's R7's here, and just for the heck of it, I took his set to the range. Hitting them was so easy, even down to the 3i which had a nice penetrating ball flight, granted the lofts are much stronger on those clubs compared to mine, i.e. PW on mine is 47* the R7 PW is 44* which is 1 degree weaker than my 9i, yet I hit shots of the toe of the R7's PW and still went straight and flew 135 yds. which I thought was pretty decent for a badly hit shot. I agree the R7's look clunky to me, as I prefer a thin top line at address, but if I were looking for GI clubs, I'd seriously give the R7's some consideration.

Check ebay, there are some clean sets for sale there.

@WUTiger ...

The Amp Cell irons I am looking at come stock w with dynalite 90 shafts .25 inches longer than my stock px flighted 5.5 on my Cally x-22 tours. That being said when I had a basic fitting a few years ago my px flighted had .50 inch added, in your expert opinion should I a. go with regular flex in the dynalite 90's b. Should I have  the 9i-6i lengthened .25 inches to match my current set c. Would the extra increase effect flex? thanks

I have the dynalite 90 shafts in my AMP Cell irons and so far so good. Adding .25 will not change the flex because they add the length under the grip not at the tip. Let us know how you like them.

Why is there no information about the dynalite 90 shaft and flex?  If px flighted 5.5 is an in between flex how does that translate to TT dynalite reg and stiff? When testing the clubs what should I be looking for out of the flex? I ask because I will be hitting into a net which is a bit hard to tell.

I didn't try any of the iron sets the OP mentioned.  I did however buy the TM RocketBladez iron/hybrid set this past season.  Game improvement?  Yes.  I'm hitting par-3 greens much more often due to straighter, higher trajectory and more consistent ball flight and distance control using the new irons and hybrids.

As always, YMMV.

I ended up going to the PGASS yesterday after work and traded in my X-22 Tours. After some time in the hitting bays my swing speed was avg of 85. Was told S flex was a good fit. I was hitting the 7 iron consisanly 160-165. I didn't have them fitted. With the winter here (except this weekend apparently ) in NY I will wait till mid march to go have them fit and have new grips put on. I think I got them for a good deal. $199 for 4-gw. On a side note why someone wouldn't give clubs a good scrubbing before they trade them is crazy. A solid cleaning could up the value a few $.

I picked up a set of Taylormade Rocketbladez and I love them. When struck well I'm getting 5 to 10 yards more then my old set, nice high ball flight (piercing not ballooning) and fairly forgiving. Not to mention I love the look, feel and sound. I'm more than satisfied with them.

I also just picked up a set of Mizuno MP 32 irons but I just couldn't refuse the price for these gems and I've always wanted a nice set of blades. The guy who sold them to me just didn't know what he had. They're in great condition too. But that's all for another thread.

Taylormade Rocketbladez would be my choice for GI irons.

jman,

Comparing the X22.Tours and the Amp.Cell irons is a bit difficult to do. Here's a loft comparison.

When testing the clubs what should I be looking for out of the flex? I ask because I will be hitting into a net which is a bit hard to tell.

I suspect the Dynalite 90 is a TT shaft custom-made for the Amp.Cell line - it's not mentioned on the TT website. The Cobra website shows the Dynalite 90 is a high-launch shaft that weights 90 grams before shaft trimming. The original Dynalite had a FCM = 4.8 for Regular flex, 5.8 for Stiff flex. The PX 5.5 weighs 115 grams uncut, and had an FCM = 6.0.

So, if you went with S.flex as below on the Dynalite, if would be slightly more flexible than the 5.5, but is 25 grams lighter and would move through the ball more quickly (possible control issues). You would possibly balloon the ball on short irons, because the flighting of the PX 5.5 (or any flighted shaft) would tone down the launch angle of the short irons.

I ended up going to the PGASS yesterday after work and traded in my X-22 Tours. After some time in the hitting bays my swing speed was avg of 85. Was told S flex was a good fit. I was going to recommend you get a new fitting, but you have already bought new irons so good luck. // If you tested and bought the Amp.Cell, you are hitting the 7i longer in part because it has almost the loft of your old 6i, and it has a 1/4" longer shaft. Good luck!

Focus, connect and follow through!

Thanks for the reply wutiger. Always very informative. I was looking for a more forgiving iron for some time and have hit the Mizuno lines a few times. I really liked the 800 and 800 pros but have yet to see a used set at any shops. I didn't really like the 825 series and can't spend the cash on the new Ez series. I figured the lofts were jacked up. As for the length of the new dynalite 90's I am .25 inch shorter now because I had the PX flighted lengthen .50 when I got them. That being said I played them today. I had some solid shots and was happy with my irons. Still can't hit a 6 iron so that should be fun to figure out in the off season. I am going to have a lie fitting when I go for new grips next season. I hope the Amp Cells can be bent if need be. 1st time I have had a gap wedge in a few years and 1st that matched iron set so excited to see how that plays out and hone in on all my distances with the new clubs. Thanks everyone for the posts.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone ever heard of the Adams Insight XTD 2 irons? They are quite easy to hit for someone new to golf, heck im a 14 HC and I still use them. Anyway, if you can find them I'm sure they would be cheap because they were around 299 back in '10 new.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
