I see the new short game area and few other changes here and there, but where is the giant parking for the big week? I'm guessing it is down the road somewhere and they run a shuttle service.

Interesting photos. The real differences would be seen in pictures from the late 1930's until today. It was a completely different course back then, similar in layout but different greens and bunkers. MacKenzie's original plan was far more linksy than how the course evolved. Angles were key and there was more width.

The modern pro golfer his the ball so far that ANGC has made a lot of changes, some good and some bad IMO. Adding the first cut and more trees has changed the nature of the course more than any other modifications. They don't want the winning scores to be too far under par.

This is analogous to St.Andrews except that the powers at ANGC decided years ago that green grass and pristine conditions trump all other considerations. St. Andrews can be a lightweight course for the best players in light wind, but the essence of the course has not changed. It can be dry and brown but playing the proper angles off of the tee is the key to scoring well on that course.
