Personal Handicap Question?.

Played a round of golf this morning with a social club, on completion and having a cold beer, overheard one of the players saying he used his second handicap for the days round, when asked by a fellow golfer (your second handicap) he replied have one for here and one for weekend golf at my home course.

MY QUESTION ?. I THOUGHT THAT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU PLAY YOU ONLY HAVE ONE HANDICAP.

Am I correct on this. Look forward to your comments.

PS His handicap is 5 stroke difference from his home one to the social one.

I did here a rumor that there is some discussion among the powers to be to come up with one handicap system for everyone.  Don't know how serious it is.

Very. The expectation (hope?) is that will arrive in about 2020.

And that it will be a joint R&A;/USGA package (a la Rules and Amateur Status). So the R&A; will be involved in handicapping for the first time.

Here in the US, I have known some guys who have been DQ'd from tournament(s) for submitting the higher of 2 or more handicaps when entering the tournament.  They were found out and DQ'd.  Rightfully so.  I play out of 3 different organizations, pay handicapping fee to each one but all post to my same handicap number so I have only 1 handicap.

I was surprised to find that the USGA Handicap Manual does, in section 6-5, allow for the possibility of a player legitimately having 2 different handicaps in limited circumstances.  They do require that if a player maintains a handicap at more than one club they must post al of their scores under each club.  Generally that would result in the player having the same handicap with each club in the vast majority of cases.
